bigchris - this is a discussion board... hence the discussion. If we only talk about what we see it sure wouldn't be very lively. I was never hurt so I was over it before it began. But I think the purpose of the discussion board is to enlighten every one. Emphasis on light... as in light-hearted discussion. That's all I try to do, if it's taken any other way I'm sorry.
By the way Chris thanks for making me LMAO. I don't claim to be anything other than an ignorant old coach!

Chris you and Craig both know I have umpired high school and college baseball and it sounds like to me this umpire is very young and trying to make a name for himself at the expense of a very young 10 year old and probably one of the greatest moments in his life that being his first homerun over the fence. I have been hit by many bats and balls doing High Scholl and College and not once have I thrown a person out for accidently hitting the catcher with the bat whether it is on the swing or after the swing these kids are young and need to be taught the game properly and that being through the coach and not through an umpire trying to make a name for himself I do not know the umpire nor the kid that hit the homerun but from just reading the comments from both sides it seems you have someone here trying to make a name for himself by getting all the attention and not the kids that are playing. Like Craig said the proper way to handle this is through the coach and not make a big scene in front of everybody and disallow the kid one of lifes most precisious moments your first homerun as a Major Leaguer in Little League. Umpires please do not take things like this personal but you do need to think about the kids that are playing and not about flexing your power just because you are in charge of the game and do not get me wrong but I am also all about the safety of the kids also but ask yourself was the kid purposely trying to hit the catcher or was it just a bad habit that needs to brought to the coaches attention and worked on not take away a special moment in his life.

The ump in this case is a great kid, straight A student and he takes good command of the field but doesn't try to be the center of attention (we've all seen those kind of umps). I still think he got this one wrong but he generally does a very solid job - much better than most of our parents The league will be sending him to San Bernardino for a week long training this summer. I think he'll learn a great deal - I hope he'll learn a great deal

Greenie at the time he was but remember what I told you he has alot of potential and I am very happy to see he is starting to excell give him a little more time and I am sure you will hear alot about him around these parts. Chris can vouch for me in travel ball you see alot better pitching than you do in Little League but the thing is never take anything away from the kids keep encouraging them to step up their game you and your son have alot to be proud of no matter what the call was he still deserves the credit for hitting the HR. Jim keep in touch we will be leaving June 16th for Cooperstown New York and be back on the 24th and then BYB will be playing in the JR. Olympics in Davis on 4th of July weekend. Let me know when you guys play again I would like to come out and watch little Greenie. LOL

We seem to have LOTS of young talent this year ( just look at the ALL STAR POST )
What I have seen w/my son is a slow and steady improvement. It's happening through hard work and lots of quality practice. I keep reminding myself he is only 11..... We off to ATT to watch the ORANGE and BLACK.
Good Luck this summer - Tony
