Craig,
Isn't that funny how Baseball gives us those great memories....
You are right, the umpire was bad. He did call the kid safe at third and said he had to tag him. He really shouldn't have been umpiring since he didnt know what a force was.....but for LL minors it was a bit much.... I would have got suspended for life if that was me....
Do you also remember that my kids team batted out of order, Adrian ended the second inning by striking out. Then he lead off the third inning anyway (since we were out of order) which was the wrong call. Then he hit the "homerun" off Brett. More like a double with two base errors but when you are 9 years old its a "homerun."
Ryan had like 100 strike outs that year in minors.... I always wanted Robert to break that record but unfortunately he didnt play in Turlock...
Ceres voted on All Star Coaches tonight and Gary and I get to coach the Ceres 11/12u "A" All Star team. Yeah. Another Turlock coach is coaching the 7/8 year old "A" All Star team too, you might have heard of the guy.... Turlock doesnt have All Stars for 7/8 year olds do they? The fence is like 130 to center in Ceres so the kids can jack homeruns. It's interesting to see a 7 year old go yard.

Hey Craig and Tony,
I am a little surprised that this issue has gone on this far as it has. Both of you have given alot to the programs for what it is worth. I know that you both have been good friends for a long time and I want to believe that you still are. I also believe that this can be settled quietly, adultly and in the most positive direction possible away from the forum. Now whether you do it over the phone or face to face, it needs to be done as soon as possible because there is still alot of baseball left. Your sons will hear something and will cross paths and may exchange words. I know that both of you do not want to see or hear that. After all how would you handle it if it were players off of each of your teams exchanging words. I know that may seem to be different, but it is possible that could happen.
Oh, by the way, yes Craig, I was the other coach who raised his voice at a base umpire (as we all have done now and then) a couple of years ago (I believe it was against you) and I asked him, "How can you miss that call standing that close"? He reaction was, "I quit". He then walked off the field and went home.
Good luck my friends,
Coop

Crash your post was very clear and positive with good thoughts and concerns. Anyone with common sense should have been able to understand where you were going with it. There is always someone who wants to take it a step further or turn it around into something else that is not necessary. I guess that is why it is called opinions. Everyone one has one.
There never is an easy way to make umpiring simple. It is totally hard work for those who wants to be apart of it. For those who do not, it seems as though they have all the right answers. It is kind of funny now and then when a particular call occurs. When it is a close call the umpire gets the call 50% right. The other 50% think the umpire is wrong. As far as some type of a system to make it work for the whole season with all the levels that we have here in Turlock, it is almost impossible. If we don't have the personnel (adults) how can we make it workable? We only make it workable at this time with some of our youth umpires as we skim by from day to day. Even if we had all adults I still think we would have alot of concerns if this person is worthy to be in the program. There would be issues with their strike zone or positioning also. As far as I am concern each person has to look at themselves as an umpire/coach and say, "How can I improve my game and make it a better one the next time I step on the field"?
