Last night the TNLL board approved three teams (11/12 - 11s - 9/10) for National and 2 teams for National South (11/12 - 9/10).
There seems to be a showdown brewing over whether the best 11 year old players will play on the 11/12 team or the 11s team. TNLL has a pretty talented group of 11s and I'd like to see them play on the 11s team. The 11/12 team would likely be a weaker team without the 11s but the 11s should be very strong.
The process for how many kids will play on a team appears to have been left up to the All Star manager. However, still to be decided is whether the most talented 11s will play for the 11/12 team or the 11s team. We have a very strong group of 11s and I feel the 11s have the best chances going forward.

Good Morning Chris...you're up early
This will be a very passionate debate. As I view the talent pool in National, the 11's can field a very competitive team. If one age group can play with in their age IE- 11's w/11's they will have a better change of advancing.
What we are seeing with both NAT & NAT SOUTH in the 11's are the TRAVEL BALL PLAYERS excelling....
Lets get these 11's together and let them run !!!!

Hey Bud ~
Indeed, many of the kids to whom I was referring are travel ball players (Rangers) and have really improved this year. It would be great to keep them together for this year and next.
In all honesty, it'll be even better when they're all playing together as Rangers again with a flame throwing kid from NS.

YOU HAVE MY VOTE..... These kids have made HUGE IMPROVEMENTS in their game. Just look at the STATS. I am only guessing, but it would be interesting to know how many TRAVEL BALL PLAYERS are on say RIVER PARK ASTARS.
We are packed up and ready to go !!!!!!!!

I think it is not only the "Travel Ball" players that have elevated their game, but I will agree they have elevated their game's and it is good to see them all playing well. Let's not forget not every kid gets asked to play Travel Ball. We have many good players that wish to participate in other sports as well throughout the year. The thing that gets me is every year the terms of selecting an All Star team continue to change. How many kids the kids vote on...how many kids will be on each team....last year we had different numbers of players on different squads. Let's try to get a system that works and stick with it.

Yes Chris I know you are aware of the improvements of many players. I would agree that the kids have the best chance at keeping them together by age group. I also am aware last year was the first year we an all 11 year old squad as well and many of those youngsters get to play as 11 year olds again this year thanx to the birthdate change LL made. I am not faulting anyone as I know it takes time to get things worked out to be consistant. I just wish each and every kid the best of luck in many years to come of them playing baseball. I will say the 11's should have no problem fielding strong pitching as the talent pool is quite deep.
Did they vote on the TOC issue as well last night? Any plans for a change in the City Championship as well? I know these were some topics at hand.

Brian,
TOC are a GO as of right now, if I understand the League could change this decision if needed. City Championship to be played at Soderquist using Nat/NatSouth ground rules.
AND.....
YES we are seeing 11's become better ball players all around.... TRAVEL BALL or NOT. Just being consistent in practice, play down at the local park, Fall ball just get out and have some FUN !!!

The first choice is up to the family. I don't think an 11 should be forced to play up if they don't want to.
The second consideration is which team has the best chance of going further? If it's the 12s by brining up 11s then you do that. if it's the 11s by keeping them together then that's the course you take. Yes, it's about winning.
In either scenario, I think only having 12 players is the best choice - if the goal is to win. If it's about recognition then have 14 or 15, sit 'em all equally and winning be damned!

This is a very touchy subject it seems. Which team should get the talent, it could go either way. I personally think the best age group should stay together. This might hurt one age group more than the other but like you all say all stars are about winning. In making one team better you will end up offending some others, but that life or baseball. I truly believe that the 11's on both n & n/s have the best chance, but only the Nat side will find out.
I think that we need to decide how this is going to be voted on. Leaving it up to the managers of the all star teams is going to be tough, because both managers will have good points for why they should get the better players. Will the kids vote for best 12's & 11's together and they go to the 12's all stars. then they vote 11's and they make the 11's team. OR do you vote on each age group first then fill the team with the remaining players in that age group. WOW we have alot decisions make!

I think Crash make a great point. I think it should be which team can go farther. All-Stars is about winning and advancing.

I have a problem with a 11 's team. I'm old school and when I think of all stars the first thing that comes to mind is getting to WILLIAMSPORT... The 11's only go to state and I know it's a pipe dream to make to the World Series but look how close Tracy came last year...
Put your best 11/12 team together and lets see how far they get. Do you guys really think we have enough talent to fill 2 teams when we only have 5 teams in the league? Plus it screws the 12's.
I'm glad I don't have to get involved with whats sure to be a hot topic in the weeks to come!!! 9/10's Will be fun to watch this year.
