Yes, but a motion for an eleven only team would have meant near every 11 year old in NS would be an All Star. Perhaps this is ok....I don't think so.
It seems to me the 11/12 year old team provided the best competitive team for NS. In N League this is different as 23 players are available and there is plenty of depth to formalize a very competitive 11 year old team.
On the latter question regarding team maximum. I believe 12 max is the best situation. Easier to manage and sub in and out.

Seems everyone I've talked to and everyone that's commented on this board agrees 13 is too many...
I witnessed a great thing at Soderquist the other night. I was talking to two National coaches (from different teams) and one of their Board members came up and invited them to a meeting about all stars. Seems the Board wanted input from the coaches about how many teams they should have, etc., for all stars. My hats off to the Nat'l board for including their coaches in the decision making process.

I agree with Crash and from looking at the American East side this could be the best shot Turlock has ever had at going all the way with names like both Cumberland boys,Kramer,Naucimento,Cedarlind,Ibarra,Lopez all these kids had a very successful year in travel ball and with all this talent on 1 all star team how could you go wrong. If you are going to pass up travel ball to play LL All Stars I feel you should put the best 11's and 12's together and go for the gusto. Plus I have seen alot of kids step up their games this year whether they are playing travel ball or not and I have seen some that has went in the wrong directions but who is to say it has been fun to watch this year from the other side even tho you do not have a kid playing in the league it is still fun to go over and watch kids you have either coached or have come in contact with through baseball.

It's a tough deal. Maybe we should let the kids and managers use their votes and place the players on the team they are voted on to, and the 12 all star manager fills his team however he likes, then the 11. If a player, or parent, doesn't want to be on that team, see ya next year. If the league was consistent in their policy we would not be having this conversation. It's my understanding the 11s got thier way last year and stayed together. I'm just talking national here. Is there any official policy from little league about this? Whatever the decision, the parents who don't get their way just need to suck it up and let the kids play ball!!

I'm not sure I understand the logic.
1. Why would the 12s get to pick first.
2. Why would we be so quick to dismiss the wishes of the player and their parents?
3. Why would we want to send a 12 yr old team comprised mostly of 11 yr olds against teams comprised mostly of 12 yr olds? American's 12 yr olds would eat our youngsters alive.
4. Why not let them play with the 11s just as they did last year. Everyone is in agreement then. Now that the potential 12 yr old Manager has moved up suddenly last years decision isn't good enough anymore.
You simply have to field the most competitive team in this situation.

Lets go to next year. a 11 want to play 11-12's. If he's good enough to make the team will he have the option or is he stuck playing with the 11's?
I know i'm getting a little ahead of the game here but was just wondering.

I don't think next year 11s will have any problem being competitive. Hows that for side-stepping?

I'm from the other side (A/AE) so I'm not sure why I'm jumping in this discussion (yeah, I do - I'm stupid!). Anyway... The question to ask is will it make your 12U team competitive by adding the the 11s? Not MORE competitive b/c the answer obviously seems to be yes... but will they be able to beat the best 12U teams. If you think they can, then go for it. If they can't, then ask yourself what your 11s would do in their own age bracket. Do they have a shot at beating the best teams? Like I said, I'm stupid... but I think your 11s have a great shot and going a long way. The 12U team, with the 11s, will have a more difficult time going as far as the 11s will (if they stay together). End of story. It might be good for egos to play up but I think the result will be two teams that struggle. Why not give one team a shot at achieving great success? I think the 11s can.

Craig - How do you prepare your guys for all the breaking balls they'll be seeing in the AS tourney. Do you use your machine?

We have yet to see very many. This is the first year I've had the machine, so no, haven't yet - but will! In the past I've used the old elbow (and paid the price!). Speaking of curves, one of the worst mistakes youth coaches make is teaching kids to turn their shoulder away from inside pitches. Reason I say that is when they do face curves and they turn the shoulder it kinda makes it hard to swing a bat. At the next level they'll have to unlearn the roll... I saw alot of the players on the 13U travel team do this and get fooled by the curve time after time...

To reply to your response Chris. 1. Why not? 2. We do it in the draft. I guess we could just let players go to any team they want for the regular season also just to keep the parents happy. Hey, lets just put our Rangers team in Little League!!!!!!! 3. Is it going to be much different for the 11's. You will still end up with players that are not really all stars. 4. You got me there. I think we need to be consistent year after year. Everyone wants to field the most competitive team with the players available. Hey I'm dummmur thun moost wen ut coms two basketball. I'm sure I wrong but just my 2 cents. Ummm baseball.

LOL - I understand most of what you said Dennis - You threw me atthe end.
1. Why not - not?
2. It's different - we allow kids to play in minors if they choose.
3. It'll be a huge difference for the kids moving up and taking on 12 year old teams.
4. Ah, I got you there & I agree. Next year I promise to support the twelves playing with the tweleves. Here it is for all to see.
