Is it possible to remove politics from the All Star selection process? What are your ideas?

no
the only way to come close is the give THE all star manager final say over who does and who doesnt make the team. Then hope he doesnt fall into the trap of picking favorites.
as long as OTHER managers have a "REAL" say in the selection process they will always push for their sons and/or friends. while the all star manager wont/shouldnt want to be wasting their precious time coaching a team that will be 2 and out because they didnt field the best team possible. who made the teams anyway?? names were released wednesday right?

The only way to remove politics is to do it exactly how little league recommends. That is have the players, umpires, board, parents, manager, and coaches all vote. Tally the votes counted by some totally non bias person and let that happen. This way the amount of ballots counted would allow for the extremes to fall away and the true majority votes would win out
Allowing the all star manager to name his own team would be a train wreck. I am dealing with that right now with one team.
True if everyone had morals and ethics and would do the right thing, it would work, But that isn't going to ever happen. And why should it. I mean a manager picks his players originally during the regular season draft, and then when he gets to allstars he is going to admit that his regular season picks suck, and he is going to say that the other managers did a better job of picking players so he will take their players instead of his. No way. No manager is going to admit publicly that he made mistakes when he put together his regular season team and then go to allstars and even think his players aren't the best. Of course he thinks his players are the best, he picked them. If he doesn't validate this then he is admitting to himself that he doesn't know how to put together a team. And then that means he can put together an allstar team. If he can't do it for regular season how is he going to do it for allstar. He will always be prejudiced toward his own team. AS HE SHOULD!
That is why many votes would get the best allstar team. If every parent, every manager, every coach, every umpire, every board member voted for the allstars the amount of votes would help get the best players. Instead of one group having more strength then another.
So so long, my 2 cents.

LOL - thanks for your two cents. I'm not sure which way to go. Hell, George BuSh got elected by a majority (at least the second time around) so I'm not sure a straight vote is the answer Player stats are only as good as the peeps keeping them. That "official score keeper" you have suggested might help atleast to be able to see all the kids compared fairly against one another. We scored more runs than anyone in the National League and none of our kids hit higher than .420 yet I've seen some stats from some teams that aren't nearly as good as ours with a kid allegedly hitting .650+ and several more hitting .400+. Reaching on an error is not a hit!

BTW, I think the effort you put in to trying to keep things on the up-and-up is laudable. Especially, when there are so many agendas (my on included) that you have to deal with in an all star selection meeting.

Reaching on an error is not a hit! i doubt ANY kid currently in Nat/NS is at that level. aside from Walker (pitching only) there are NO standouts at soderquist currently. the talent level has fallen off DRAMATICALLY from 2000, 2001, 2002

^^^ that was me
oh ya and by the way i am very glad the manager had final say so 2 years back in junior league (NS) or THE 4 best players (who happened to be 13 years old) would NOT have made the team in favor of 4 14 year olds who were nowhere near half as good.

[shadow=red,left,300][glow=red,2,300]Little League is no different then any other league. Even in the bigs you have years like in 87, the rookies that year like Bonds...Sierra...Larkin...Clark...etc...all developed into quality starters. You have good players in every batch but the premium players don't come along every year. One reason could be that alot of the Kids are playing more travel ball or have takin a liking to other sports. [/glow][/shadow]
