OK Chris,
I value and respect peoples thoughts. I don't judge people whether they are right or wrong. I give them credit for their time that they put into a program whether it be Little League Baseball or Soccer. As for myself why do I do it. It is because I love children. My dad was an educator like Craig and Lance which he died of an early age of 61 through heart problems. I wanted to follow his footsteps but I didn't. This was the next best thing for me. I started this out of high school and just stuck with it. It just kind of grows on you. As for my future with youth activities, I don't know from one year to the next what I will be doing. I have two granddaughters 3 and 7 and another child on the way maybe our son and his wife will give us that Little Leaguer we are looking for. If not and my granddaughter wants to play softball then that will be the direction I will go. She is into dancing and soccer, so who knows what will happen. Maybe it time for me to walk away. It will not abe easy. We all have our own calling. I just enjoy helping out when my time allows me. Chris, I for one thank you for coming out to the field and taking pictures yesterday. You do an outstanding job on the web. I thank you for your talents. The program is lucky to have.

Coop ~
This isn't about you. You have been a dedicated volunteer and that is a wonderful thing.
However, I do judge people for their decisions and actions. I also hold them accountable when their actions are hurtful to others. If you don't judge people for being right or wrong then almost any behavior is acceptable. I accept decisions I disagree with all the time. However, this isn't about a difference of opinion; this is about a decision Robyn made to publicly attack an institution and its volunteers that I care deeply about.
Thanks for your comments. I enjoy taking pictures but I really like providing photos to parents. Its amazing to me that folks who coach never get as many photos of their own kids. Its fun to help out.

This is to be read after Paul's and Chris's last two posts. See everyone has their own reasons for being a ll volunteer. This is the needs that are being met. We as BOD need to realize we have to meet the needs of the players and the needs of the Managers and coaches and the needs of the other volunteers who are not Mgrs or Coaches. We have to do this or we are not going to have BOD in the future. About the Letter to the Editor. It is hard to convince new people to sign on when it looks like members are attacking their own in a public way. These things need to be solved in house, and then a united front needs to be presented once the vote is taken. No matter if you like the outcome of the BOD vote, you have to support your BOD so that you are united. Who wants to join a Board when it looks like the board is fighting publicly? I have an issue about the way a possible decision about a Manager missing tryouts was discussed on this board. For instance, all of the facts were not recorded, and the one BOD member who did discussed it needed to support his board decision and not back down. I will not go into it here, since it is not the place or forum for discussion of it. That was the other misfortunate thing. It is okay to discuss it, freedom of speech, but not to speak about the disciplinary action that is pretty cut and dry, without knowing all of the information. We all have to be careful of running our mouth at the wrong time. We all have to remember that these boards are not in anyway approved by the boards of our respective BOD also.

I agree Mel. You don't hear me discussing BOD information I may be privy to here. I'm not a member of the BOD and I still don't discuss that information here. That having been said, this board does give folks the fourm for discussing issues with which they disagree. If its public it can be discussed. It must serve some purpose because the first thing that pops up when you GOOGLE "Turlock Baseball" is this forum.
I've changed my views on things as a result of the good discussions we've had here. Unlike the football folks I think the baseball folks have been very open to discussing sticky topics openly.

Dodger, I think you need to take a chill pill. You are not making sense. I am not talking about the letter so much as loyalty to your board. If it looks like the board is eating its young who in their right mind is going to want to volunteer to join. Also, I notice that you don't include your name. I always include my nickname which everyone knows. If they don't know who Mel is it is Melody Lema. I am a 28 year volunteer with Little League Baseball. I have served on both local and district boards, and I have served as vice president, player agent (current and in the past), special events, woman's auxiliary (when there was such a thing), uniforms and concession head. I have ran fund raisers, from raffles to helping with the last French Toast Breakfast. I remember when sign ups where in the War Memorial and we had to stop doing that because the city started to charge $200.00. My next job with the league will be the historian and working on getting Lights for the Soderquist field. I should of said I am on the National and National South board for the last few years off and on, but was on the American and American East board off and on for the years before that. I think the biggest job of LL is to teach children how to be on a team and how to be a team player. If the board of directors can not be a team and run the league with the attitude that not everyone is going to get their way, but compromise and concession will allow the program to move forward, then that board member needs to leave. I personally think the lady who wrote the letter was frustrated and felt that she could not get her point of view heard. I understand that view, since I have felt it frequently. I do not blame her for having to get her point heard if that is the fact. The whole board has a responsibility to treat each person with respect and to listen respectfully and with an open mind. Perhaps she did not get this treatment. Since I am not on her board I do not know, and I will not pass judgement. But on our board, I will. If we vote for something, and even if it is not something that I voted for, I will respect our president and the remainder of the board members and support the vote. I will only hope the rest of the board will do the same for me. I hope you can understand this, and if you do ever serve on a board you will remember that if you are on a board of a youth team sport, you have to be a team first before you can teach the kids to be a team. Role modeling must start at the top of the program and the top is the BOD.

Dodger30 - I doubt you know most of the "Dad's" you're putting down. You certainly don't know me. My kids play baseball for nine months out of the year b/c they want to. They have a blast. Anything wrong with that? And it's anything but baseball, baseball, baseball! There's dirt biking and fishing and camping and basketball and - hell, the list goes on.
"It's not going to happen, dream on." What a pitiful statement. Is that what you teach your kids and/or players? My Dad taught me to dream big - and I'm teaching my kids the same thing. So far they're pretty happy kids as a result. Optimism breeds that I think.
Lastly, you talk about "short man's complex" but yet you don't idntify yourself, so that statement comes across as an oxymoron.

Good Lord someone needs to tell Robyn that Sandlot is a MOVIE!! Why would a BOD member attack her own program publicly. No wonder our numbers are lacking. GEEZ! Why? That's pretty simple. First of, is she in charge of the whole program? No, she is a member, like you said. To make a few comparisons, you think members of the government don't criticize the government? Problems can't be fixed sometimes without people drawing attention to them. I love the company that I work for but it's actually my job to be critical of how it's ran. And I do it in front of VPs, who can either tell me to shut up or they can fire me if they don't agree there's a problem. Whether she's right or wrong is to be questioned, of course. To question her motivation is absurd. If you are part of the problem, why would you publicly draw attention to yourself? You think the people that embezzled money from LL would have written to the newspaper drawing attention to themselves? It's the people that don't speak out or try to do anything to change things that fail the system. If anything else, the article has brought about discussions about things that need to change. Turn the discussions into positives. That's what is great about a democracy. People can have different opinions about things and still live side by side. The problem is, most people can't handle people disagreeing with them. They get angry and defensive instead of just realizing they have a difference of opinion. You all want what's best for the kids? Put your differences aside, discuss the topics, and compromise when you can but stick to your guns when you feel that compromise isn't an option. I'm willing to bet that the kids out there think you're ALL stupid for making a simple game of baseball so damn complicated to enjoy. And no, life isn't the movies, love isn't a fairytale, and Earth isn't Heaven. But if you're not trying every single day of your life to make it as close to those things as you can for yourself and everyone around you, I question why you bother every getting out of bed in the morning
