I will agree with you Jim on two points, the potential of the Expansion teams get the snot kicked out of them the first year is very high, but over the long haul, and the mandatory drafts of 12 years old, that would not last but the first year and the second is that you cannot control the coaches thing. All I was saying is that those teams that have coaches for a year will be able to build a core unit prior to the draft.
To upset all of the teams for a year to get some parody in a year where there are not that many dominating players in our league, is not right. If you take a look at last years 12s, I could see that, The Giants, Yankees, Dodgers would have feasted on these teams, but you have a whole different crop of kids.
The other thing that we are ASSUMING is that the new major players are not going to be ready. We already know that there were kids that were tanking it in both the AA and AAA where they could be superstars when they should have been playing up a level.

The draft could have been handled like an expansion and not a redraft of the entire league. Who's idea was it to redraft the entire league?

BTW - the agenda for such a hot botton issue should have been posted in advance. I expect there will be some very angry parents/kids and at least offering to allow them to be heard may have been advisiable.

BTW, just because we voted on it last meeting doesn't mean that it is final. It could come up again January, if the board wanted to address it again.

The BOD probably should. Issues like redrafting probably should get a first and second reading to allow time for cooler heads to do some research and fact checking.

Justin is one of those kids who is very unhappy with this decision. He wants to finish Little League with Mike E. Now he has to wait around to see if Mike will be able to draft him again. I'm sure all the returning 12's are feeling the same way. It's going to be a sad day in our house when someone calls to tell him he has to play for someone else.

i must agree, bad idea!
Little league baseball is where kids build great friendships by working hard together for multiple years.
i can tell you guys with 100 percent certainty that my brother formed close friendships with 2 teammates. those 2 kids to this very day are still his best friends, wilfredo galdamez and joshua serna

Agreed - I think we need to go back to the drawing board and find a better solution.

You know Scrapper two things come to mind...Common Communication Plan...Which obviously you did not get....and the fact that there were other options that I put out there. Such as Existing teams forgoe the first 3 to 4 rounds to expansion teams. Fact is no-one jumped on the options presented. So, I take issue with pointing the finger. We as a board made a decision, given quite some discussion. We examined several options. The mandatory twelve year old play has made it is a difficult situation no matter how you slice it.
But, I want it to be clear three options were discussed. Redrafting the entire league was only one.

WHY NOT LET A MANAGER PROTECT 2 KIDS FROM HIS TEAM AND LET THE REST GO BACK TO THE DRAFT?

Well, Chris, I was one of the yahoo's, so I guess I am not very intelligent.
As for Dave and this being my idea, I remember, like Pedro, that several ideas was thrown around. Not just one.
I have worked on this problem since the beginning. This is not something that I have taken lightly.
I want to praise those board members who remembered that they are board members and support the board decisions. (Read Jim Green and Pedro). This is showing real team unity. Dave, is this the team unity you are going to teach a team?
I wonder if any of you realize, you don't have the teams yet. You have not been nominated or voted on. Some of the things said on this forum shows true character, and that may have an impact on votes.
As for discussing this again, we have more fish to fry prior to the first registration, and Dave you were one of first to call for a special meeting to discuss this. Just because you did not get your way doesn't allow you to scream sour grapes and call for a re-vote.
As for parents knowing, get thee selves to board meetings. We can not read minds and discover the "hot" issues that parents want to know. Who wants to know the uniform bid, or the picture bid? If they want an agenda to be posted, the secretary can do this. Just ask Dave Hanham, he is secretary.
This was not going to be a happy decision no matter what. This is not something I wanted, but given the new rule something had to be done. I also did not want to be revisiting this again next year.
As a player agent, my job is to watch out for the all of the players, and if anyone wants to tell me that is not what I do, you are welcome to the position.

Thats BS Melody attacking Dave like that and then talking about the BOD sticking together. So folks on the BOD don't have right to alternative opinions? You have it wrong if you think BOD members need to tow some imaginary line. That isn't itergrity that how trouble begins.
That is total BS to threaten Dave with his coaching job?! How dare you! That is hateful and if you're going to pull that kind of crap as a BOD member YOU need to step down.
Apparently, the BOD has decided to stop announcing meetings. If they had announced it I bet you would have had plenty of concerned parents at that meeting.

Chris....From Presidency to now... funny how things change. You are off base on this one. I believe Mel is pointing out that managers and coaches get voted in on January 4th provided their volunteer form and photo ID documents are in. Have not seen too many coming in. Parents, Managers and coach from last year this is required for you to be on the list to coach. Please visit the website download the form and follow instructions. Next Board meeting is on January 4th, I believe at VOS. Open for all and any interested parents.

Hey everybody, are we having fun yet. First, I want to address the manager thing. If the national/national south board and president do not want to approve my application for management of the Giants then turn me down. [glow=red,2,300]"I wonder if any of you realize, you don't have the teams yet. You have not been nominated or voted on. Some of the things said on this forum shows true character, and that may have an impact on votes". [/glow] I will not be bullied. I have coached in this league for two years and the players, parents and other coaches know how I am all about my team. However, We still live in America.
You talk about team unity. With this decision there is no team unity and at the board meeting I was fighting for my son's team and the other teams that have been together the last three years.
If the league will pay the postage. I will gladly send the agenda's to all members of the league. Maybe we should keep the paying membership abreast of what the board is doing.
At the meeting there were a number of ideas that were discussed regarding the 12 year old issue. The first idea was to redraft the entire league. Because of that discussion more ideas were thrown out and discussed. I was against the redrafting of the whole league from the beginning. True, the final vote was to redraft the whole league. Like I said before it was a 5-4 vote.
I will implement the board's decision even though I was against it.
