Yeah, I heard something about that. I guess some ding bat from a visiting team ran both he and ZO out. They had been up there for a while announcing games. Perhaps she should have parked her ample fanny somewhere else. Geez.

Since this thread is about bad sportsmanship, I would like to back up Baseballmom, since I was sitting right at the first base line. When I found out who the kid was, I was shocked since I had never seen him act like that before and it was uncharacteristic of him. However, he did stomp and kick the plate off it's holder (Or whatever you call it). I doubt all the people sitting on the first base side are wrong in what they saw. It's not because we were the opposing and losing team either. The view from first base is a heck of a lot clearer than the view from the other side of the field. Hopefully after an 11-1 win all is good in Giantland (Insert smiley face here!) Please don't attack me!

When he ran to 1st base, his foot caught the base pulling it up out of the dirt. He ran back past it and jumped on it to push it down into the dirt. Never once did it cross my mind that he was mad he got out. I'm only what like 50-60 feet farther away from 1st base and I watched and remember that play. I thought at the time it was a safety issue because the base came up out of the dirt. You can stand together, that's fine. I will stand behind what I saw and what I know is characteristic or not of that player.

LOL - of all the plays last night Sandra decides the play at first base was so egregious that she brings it up on this thread.
I didn't see any issues of poor sportsmanship at all last night. Certainly not a demonstration that would provoke a parent to "yank my kid in a heart beat." Good Lord! I thought it was a well played game on both sides. Why the nitpicking?
On the other hand, I did chew my own son's ass for lolly-gagging his way to 2B on the free SB.

Why is it every time I bring up something about sportsmanship the same kid does something that I know nothing about. I was talking about the Cards- D-Backs and the Padres- Angels game.

Do you know what kid or play we're referring to? It's not a kid that's ever been discussed before so I'm not sure what you mean "the same kid does something that I know nothing about"

Maybe I'm wrong. I heard about the play and I am guessing about the player. Does he live by me?

I have NO idea who Jens is nor have I ever talked a player. I'm pretty quiet at the games. If anything, I usually get odd looks for cheering on a great hit or play regardless what team it is. If I misread the body langage... so did about 10-15 other people. That sucks. It just shows what you see and what you know can be two worlds apart! I just know that where there is a kid with a bad attitude, you will probably find his parent with one also. At least I know it stands true on our team.

I stand behind "yanking MY KID out in heart beat" for bad behavior!

We need to remember that these are just kids and as kids they will make lots of mistakes, and most of them will be teachable moments. I know when we see a behavior that we don't approve of we take the opportunity to talk to our son and discuss why and what we expect. These boys are at an age right now where they are developing and maturing into young men. I think some people's expectations regarding kids' behavior is unrealistic and it's too easy to judge another child's behavior when we don't really know all the specifics Kathy
