There looks to be a pretty good group HS Basball careers as Pitman freshman this year. Derr, Olsen, Kha, Nascimento, Ibarra, Souza-Johnson, Placido, Keaton, Cederland, Essary, Kennedy, Herrera, Zimmer, Padilla and more I have forgotten.
THS gets Cumberland, Serpa, Thomas, Gomes, Marchant, Backlund, Simmons, Evans, Hatcher, Pata, Carr, Fortado, Padilla, Juriviech.
Every year kids are disappointed because they didn't make the team. Its going to be tough to make Pitman's team this year. Pound for pound Pitman looks to have a stronger group of players especially if they don't pull up Olsen, Kha, Derr or S-J.

It will be interesting to see how many kids actually try-out. I was surprised more freshmen didn't go out for basketball at THS. Some kids that have played since city league began in 2nd grade and then all the way thru middle school didn't go out. You might see that happen with a few kids on the diamond...

True - There are about 30 kids in the 6th period baseball PE class. That class doesn't include ZO, Kha, Keaton, Zimmer or Kennedy. So I bet a lot of kids get cut this year.

I imagine 1 or more kids will get pulled up to JV so that'll eliminate a few cuts...

@ THS it used to be.................not sure how much will change...................as i know pitman runs their program differently than Turlock......................
usually no1 gets cut at Frosh level (unless they are a danger to themselves and others around them).
Usually only 2 or 3 kids are "regular starters" the rest are substitutes so that everyone gets development time in the field.
umpires suck and usually dont show up...............
have fun and enjoy HS baseball, it will now be a completely new ball game...............

HS in general isnt as good as travel if you are competing in the travel tournaments that count (high level independant, BPA-Summer Premier, Super Series Nationals, and ALL Perfect Game-WWBA-WBC events).
just your basic weekend tournament isnt as tough as varsity baseball, but it is tougher than frosh and/or JV baseball
although there will be some years in HS like 07 and 08 where the CCC was featuring close to 8 D1 type pitchers (4 actually signed, one was a junior and another a sophmore, 2 are at your local JC's)....................

The class of 2011 and 2012 are the first to go thru the program having numerous players w/ travel ball experience and the classes that follow also have a bunch of kids playing travel ball... We'll see if that parlays into success at the HS level.

You're right lot of travel ball players at both schools...I don't think your going to get me to talk basketball Craig. They have to cut at Pitman. I don't think Moreno will want to carry 35 player Mark. Jens may have a very short HS career indeed.

Carrying much more than 14 players on a baseball team is pretty much a waste of time in high school...
