OK enough about the strike zone. What about the slide rule at second on the double play? I have seen on several occasions kids going into 2nd base on a double play standing up and the umpire makes no call. It happened again tonight in the Dodgers vs Yankee game and nothing was done. Then I hear one of the so called senior umpire that conducts the clinics and does alot of games say a kid does not have to slide at second. Well is this umpire going to take the resposibility when a kid gets drilled between the eyes from the SS or 2nd baseman on a throw to first.
I think it is completely insane that the umpires do not make the kid slide at second on a double play. These are the guys that are suppose to be out there for the safety of the kids and control of the game. When will it ever get better? This year has had to be one of the worst as far as strike zone, slide rule, and letting the kids decide the game and not the umpires. Like I said before to throw a mother out of the dugout or game that is in there checking on her kid that just took a line shot off the knee from the pitcher's mound is just totally insane. Then again will tell kids it is ok to go into a base standing up knowing you could get one between the eyes. That parent will get tossed to when they run out on the field to check on their kid, but the umpires say it is not mandatory to slide. Where is the logic and the so called safety these guys are to be in control of.

I saw the umpires try to throw out a young man that was a little slow just trying to have a good time cheering for a team not hurting a single person and for some reason they Had to stop the game discuss some thing and a then a umpire came over to to the young man and told him he could not cheer for a team. so he got up and moved. But they did not say a thing to the parents that were cheering for the team or to the kids that were trying to cheer for there team to hit and for the pitcher to mess up when he threw the ball. I guess that means NO more loud cheering for a team that you like.

Geez..Did they really ask the young man in the stands to stop cheering? I thought he was pretty cool. I thought the umps asked the players to stop chanting while the pitcher was throwing.

The umpires made a good call. That guy was being disruptive and was annoying the pitcher and hitters. He was a distraction to the kids in the dugout and was drawing attention away from the game. If you can't understand the difference between between the parents cheering and that guy being disruptive then you have a problem that can't be fixed through debate here.
As for the bad calls in the game, I saw one or two but they didn't affect the outcome of the game. We're not going to blame the umpiring for us not hitting and not getting the job done on defense. The umpires did fine and the plate umpire had to do the second game on his own.
Both leagues offered umpire clinincs this year which you didn't attend. Consequently, you gotta live with what you get and really don't have a right to Hottie about it.

When rules don't let them go to inside or the outside of the bag and they will not have a must slide rule, there are two choices: Standing up or disappearing.

more, Even though LL creates this problem. Coaches can still teach thier players to slide and the fielders to cross or bounce of the bag on the throw.

Same guy Mark. I know he's special but he can't be allowed to ruin the experience for every one else. I our case, on such a small field he was a real distraction for players and fans.

This has been a gentleman's agreement for quite some time (though other leagues do not to the same in all stars). He was asked to behave in the same manner as all the other fans. No harm in educating him about that. Both Chris and I though he was distarcting the players (by cheering and/or yelling out players names as the pitch was being delivered). Other than that I thought he was great. A nice kid and he livens the place up...

The guy was sitting right in front of me at the Giants/Cubs game and when the umpire came over to talk to him, he said....we appreciate your cheering on the teams but please don't cheer when the pitcher is winding up and delivering his pitch. He was very professional about it, no dissing or throwing out. I think he moved to the Cubs side because he asked me if we were winning and at that point it was 1-0 Cubs. He said he'd be right back and we never saw him again on the Giants side. My daughter plays for Pitman and when THS & Pitman freshman played, he was in the Bulldogs dugout. I admit the girls were very annoyed with him and some of his cheers were negative and demeaning to our Pride team. I was on the Yanks side last night and he was on the Angels side. He cheered the whole game and got their fans to join in and get on their feet. We could hear him on our side and it only ignited some fan cheering. It was all in fun and luckily once we started in with the cheering, the Yanks came alive with 3 runs! I'm not even a Yankee parent (although my sons best friend is a Yankee) but when everyone livened up, it was fun.

Agreed. I don't have a problem with him cheering to the extent it isn't distracting to the players or annoying to the parents. We have a couple kids on our side who can be annoying at times but they don't take away from the game. I think we were caught a little off guard when he showed up the other night. As for the Yanks game, I hear you have a son on that team too so I forgive you.

I think the "fan" and Greenie have been the most entertaining elements out at Julien this year. I have noticed that they both pull for the team that has the lead.

Since our fans & players haven't seen him before he was a little annoying. The boys in the dugout were definately distracted from cheering on their teammates up to bat. Yep, an adopted son (he's at my house right now)! He's a Yankee and a 49er which really confuses me at times Glad I'm forgiven but you know who I'm rooting for ultimately to win it all!!!
