How can a board of both leagues close a meeting for one particular league. I could see if each league has its own BOD. I must be missing something.

I think its ignorance of the procedures. These are issues that really need to be codified and built into the Constitution. Too often these procedural issue are poorly fleshed out. They probably need to be reestablished at the first meeting of the year and then reviewed several times during the year.

Agreed 100% - my only point was I don't want interleague or any of the great things we've worked towards to dissolve...
Managers, coaches and the membership should be encouraged to attend all meetings and the instances when meetings are closed should be very rare. Retraction would not fall under that categoy b/c personnel should have never entered into the equation. If there is a personnel issue it should be handled on its own.
The Brown Act has its faults but the reason it was needed is pretty clear. I think any non-profit would be wise to follow it.

I don't know about you guys but I'm actually geeked up for the LL season as much as I am for travel ball. We can throw the Brown Act or the Roberts Rule of Order into the equation all we want but the bottom line is that this is just a game. If we do what is right and set an example for the kids, the rest will fall into place. We might not always agree with each other but I think the large majority of us are wanting to see the kids have the same positive experience most of us had when we were kids in LL. I apologize for stating the obvious again Craig. BTW- when is your Crash twin going to engage in our little forum?

I agree the boards could use the Brown Act as a model or the membership could compell the BOD via the constitution to comply with the Brown Act. However, LL Boards and boards like them do not fall under the Act.

I agree Mike, b/c of interleague and the potential for a city tournament I'm very much looking forward to this season.
One of the things we've talked about for years in A/AE is creating an operating manual b/c new board members may not know a lot of the procedures.
I know the Brown Act is not mandated for LL or other non-profit boards but it would be a good idea for them to follow. The act of doing so indicates the intent to act with integrity. And, if the board has no (local) operating manual, the Brown Act provides a great road map. The LL International operating manual provides a pretty good raod map as well. Using both it would be hard to screw up.
