There is also a park going in on E. Tuolumne near Daubenberger. They are suppose to be clearing the orchards for more homes and a park. BTW- Sodersrtom was looking into doing a field on his property but I think he got discouraged with all the b.s. Apparently the county is just as bad as the city. 50k for a soil sample seems steep, even if you own the land they will make sure you pay double what it's worth to build a field on it. My suggestion is to find the land and tell the city council that we want to put more mexican restaurants on it and they will be more than happy to approve it. Then just sell nachos at the snack bar to cover your tail. Disclaimer: I love mexican food but I think we have enough of a selection in town.

Yep...I would rather hit fungos than sit on a tractor. !!! If we have any idea of ever having a FIRST CLASS BALLPARK--It would have to come from the private sector ( I:E: - RiverPark )
Better start TODAY.......

Does that mean Rodney is donating the land? I got it, "The Ballpark at Voumard Ranch". That seriously sounds good. Craig and myself have the rakes, we could start today.LOL

I have talked to the City about the possibility of new fields. The sport complex has room for two more baseball fields in the north west and northeast portions. The only problem is the cost. It would cost approximatley 200K to build these things. t
The other idea is that the leagues get the concessions out there. Right now, Godfathers has the contract and that could be a hell of a fundraiser. The only problem is that we would need people all year, not just baseball season.
So with the two leagues combining their resources, there are opportunities out there. Also, With the Development in the southeast portion of town, there is a regional park planned and the emphasis is on baseball.
Our kids may never play on it, but if we are serious about cultivating baseball in the City of Turlock, then we need to act now. If not, we can blow smoke up our a$%es all day and nothing will be done and we will have to wait for the City to bail us out in 20 years maybe longer.

If Soderstrom is serious, the Phase I for his soil is approximately 5,000 - 10000k. Depending on the soil if a Phase 2 is required, then it would be approximately 15-25K additional for the soil samples. If that is something that we want to do, I am familar with the working of City and County Planning, since I am a City Planner by trade.
A small consulting fee will be applied.

I might have someone who would be willing to facilitate this project. He wants to put a sports complex on 30 acres that he has no use for. I'm not sure if he can do it, the land may be zoned for agriculture. I'm not sure how this works and I've gotten this information from his son in-law. I would hate to see someone step up with the money and the city decide that they need to use it for more speed bumps and round-abouts. I know there are more factors involved than I could possibly imagine. I agree with Rodney, that this will more than likely happen with the help from the private sector. The city was looking into a public golf course twenty years ago and still no course. I hope I'm wrong Scrapper but the trend with the city has been that they wait for the private sector to bail them out. Don't get me wrong, I love Turlock and have been supportive of our leaders but they seem to have let our town grow too fast without considering things like youth activities and even adult recreation. Poor Greenie can't even bowl in this town anymore! Maybe this doesn't matter anyway considering that most of the new residents of our town don't spend enough time here to use any of these services, since they are working in the bay area and wouldn't get home in time.JMO

Little League has grants for new fields and/or lights. Also we may need to think outside the box, Cal Ripken league for example. I believe they help finance fields as well. Cal even flew out for the opening of one down near Fresno... I'm sure local organizations, such as Lions, Kiwanis, etc would help with financing and/or labor.

I agree with Crash.......I guess there's a first. I know LL has tradition and history on its side but we may need to consider what is in the best interest of our kids and the future of baseball in Turlock. I've done some research on the Cal Ripken leagues and they seem to be well organized with state of the art facilities. If people are worried about the LL World Series being televised on espn as an indication that they are the superior organization, well Cal has his televised too. The rules seem to be modern and player/coach/parent friendly as well. Turlock is old school and that is not always a bad thing. We have been loyal to LL for years, no matter who is calling the shots. Until recently LL has had little or no competition, now that Ripken has gotten involved they must change with the times to remain a viable option. I think we owe it to the kids to at least consider what is out there and if LL is the best fit than I will continue to support the program.
Scrapper: is Godfather's still going to do the concessions now that they are teaming up with Dean's Pizza? I thought that was a 5 year lease and if so how much is left on that agreement?

the lease is up next year, and I don't know now it is going to be Dean's Pizza to take it over, there could be a chance that it might be reopened.
You travel baller should look into it for a financing mechanism, since you play most of the year.

Lance will need to get the details. Is it Pedretti and the Sports Complex? or just one or the other? I could see Lance doing this with all the free time he has. We could get Crash to run the batting cages and give lesson's out there.LOL

We might want to consider forming a REGIONAL SPORTS ASSOCIATION..then take on a aggressive champaign to build a new sports complex, either LL or Cal Ripkin--
Several years ago I was involved with the formation of a REGIONAL AIRPORT ASSOCIATION which "LEASES" Turlock Airport from the City..sure removed the RED TAPE from having the CITY INVOLVED, and they wanted no part of a airport or the management.....
