"I guess that means you go with the big guy tonight."
Actually we're going with Cederlind. Austin needs one more day's rest (well, by LL rules he's good to go but three days rest is not enough after pitching 6 innings). Blake will do just fine though. Then we have the Bush for the final.

Wow, You mean your coaches care about the kids arm? Our coach (10's Nats) likes to ruin arms. Hows this sound to you guys. My son threw a total of 5 innings this year before A-S. So he pitches last Thursday and throws 125+ pitches and then comes back Monday and throws 120 pitches. Plus he threw on the side in practice on Sunday. Then on top of that they put him in CF and he gets to chase down balls in the gaps and throw them in. Rubbing his shoulder the whole time.

That's Brutal Greenie. I think that is way to much plus he was laboring hard after the 3rd in Monday's game. He definitely show some toughness, but at what price. It makes you wonder that maybe even in AS pitch counts are used.

I'd forfeit a game before overusing a kid on the mound. A few kids might be able to go about 100 pitches - but 120+ ?? No way...

Greenie,
This is awful! However, .....and I say this respectfully..... step in next time [glow=red,2,300]do not [/glow]allow this to happen again. It is not worth the risk.

AE 12s won the Northern bracket tonight over Madera and play Riverpark Sat @ 7:00 in the best of three series for the district title.
AE 10s beat Atwater forcing an "if" game tomorrow night. Winner takes the northern division title and advances to play Riverpark Sat @ 7:00.
Nats 10 play Riverpark Friday night @ 7:00. It could be an all Turlock vs Riverpark final.
Congrats & Good Luck to all!

Greenie I know what your talking about with pitching. Last year in our first AS game our pitcher threw 125 pitches in 6 innings. He got the win, but couldn't pitch again until the next year in little league. This is a total waste, like you said must of these 10 yrs hardly pitch in the regular season then are expected to Pitch complete games in AS. I would like to see a coach try and throw that many pitches and see how he feels the next day. Hopefully LIL Greenie will be alright. Better luck next time with coaching decisions.

From another parent point of view, I too witness this gutsy pitching effort. Assuming the parent had the discussion with the coach on the 1st occasion re: concerns and the parent pitch count matched the coaches-and were accurate, I too would have a concern. If not – this "saber waving" issue should be a mute point. An "unofficial" observation of the pitch numbers seem somewhat askew as I for one also did a pitch count (a nervous habit from a new rule) and came up w/ 82 total pitches the first game. After 4 innings the amount was at 66 total. 120+ pitches/5 innings does not add. In addition, was the throwing at practice between starts to simulate a 6 inning game/BP or was the throwing similar to playing (10 min.) warm up to work on mechanics? And finally, the second game pitch count was at 74 after 4 innings, did he throw 49 pitches in the 5th leaving w/ no outs? One could argue 1 pitch alone is too much for a 9/10 year old or for that matter any youth especially if the game is impacted by a run scoring hit or misplayed ball and not to mention the beneficiary of a lose. Yes, this affects the player, team and ADULTS. The overuse of youth pitchers should not be part of a LL game as stated in the original thread from the concerned parent. Some information in this forum may be misleading, inaccurate and should not be characterize in a manner for negative results. BTW the Nat 9/10's (team) did do a great job. Go all Turlock All Star teams against Fresno County!

Well as for the pitch count the coach of the AE team gave me the number of pitches he threw after the game and he couldn't understand why he was still in there . As for your pitch counts I think anybody who watched any of these games will agree with my counts as compared to yours.
You must be the only parent I know that has An "unofficial" observation of the pitch numbers seem somewhat askew as I for one also did a pitch count (a nervous habit from a new rule)" I sure didn't see anyone in the stands keeping a pitch count for our team.
Now if you would like we can really blow this site up with other as you say misleading and inaccurate information? Like why a manager who is 0-21 gets an All Star team.

Here's my question and yes I was at the game. It was hot and the pitcher looked tired he was throwing on shear determination and guts. This is an all-star team I can't believe there wasn't another pitcher available or at least an athlete to put in there to save this young mans shoulder/ arm. Sounds like he stepped up and did his share to help the team.

Ltl Greenie did show grit and determination. He showed what a competitor is. For what it is worth, more pitching needs to be developed. As far as 9-10's that pitch what, 5-10 innings a season should be limited by number of pitches in AS. Even 12yr olds who have pitched during the season, shouldn't be throwing more than 100 pitches in a game.
As we all know, in the heat of battle, you try and go with your horses, the problem is that at this age we all have ponies. I think that the pitch count need to be put into AS rules so that you don't ruin a kids arm.
Again, that is my two cents worth. Maybe only one cent, but hey everybody has opinions.
