Wow its hard to believe that the next league HS game will be in 2010. I hear lots of talk but wonder what the lineups will look like next.
What will 1-9 look like for Turlock, Pitman and any other teams?
We should see a fair share of sophmores move up and I hope Derr gets healthy in time. I know Crash or Trevor won't put their necks out there on this one.

OK Chris I'll take the bait... Derr will be healthy and raring to go. With the forced sabbatical I have no doubt he'll be in phenomenal shape and strong as an ox. He'll be rested - and eager to compete again. I think he'll make big contributions. As for the Pitman's varsity team (here's an opening Mikey) I have no clue. I think it will depend largely on who they pull up. They have a lot of talent to choose from. I think Turlock's varsity will be in the best position they've been in in years. When's the last time they had two players the caliber of Kramer & Wheeland? I was told Vince hit 93 at the Giants Scout team tryout this past weekend. I think he'll be pretty effective this year... but they'll need a second starter to get the job done to win league and advance is play-offs. Kramer's got the arm; will they give him the ball more this year? They have other kids that can get the job done at short but he's an anchor, why move him? Will the incoming JV hurlers have the velocity it takes to get the job done at the varsity level? Will it matter? McDonald's a crafty lefty that most coaches would love to have. I’m sure Silva has gotten bigger and stronger so maybe he’s added a few mph’s. Or maybe Voumard and his mid-80s fastball will get the nod as the # 2 even though he’s a freshman? The radar gun doesn’t lie. They have a returner in Herrera's that’s proven himself. I doubt pitching will be an issue. They have other key returning position players like Brown and Johnson that will add stability and leadership. They'll be inheriting JV players that won league and had a lot of success last year (and throughout their careers). They know how to win. But for the first time ever some players will be battling for playing time and starting positions. What will be the fall out, if any, from that? I believe it will be nominal b/c they're good kids, have a lot of heart and character. Who's it gonna be at first? Several kids will battle for that spot. All are solid so whoever’s in the line-up will be fine. 3rd and SS are locked up. But who's gonna play 3rd when Wheeland's on the bump? They have several options and I don’t think it’ll be an issue. They have the 2B vacancy to fill but have experienced players that will fill the hole nicely - a luxury most teams don't have. The IF will be solid. Who's gonna fill the OF vacancies? Perhaps some players that are used to playing IF? They have guys that’ll get the job done. I don’t think the OF - or IF - will be an issue. I don't think they'll have much speed as a team so they're gonna have to bang and/or play small ball. But I think they'll have a pretty potent line-up. I don’t think offense will be an issue. I don't think these guys will be over confident. They all have great work ethics and I don't think that will change. I know many of them have been looking forward to this season for years. They saw it coming and I think they're hungry. Attitudes won’t be an issue. The rare thing is that this year most of the players on the team will be baseball first guys. Often several starters favorite or best sport is something other than baseball. But several players on this team have given up other sports to concentrate solely on baseball. There’s a few that do play other sports but for most of them baseball is their first love. That’s a bonus. Another unique situation is most of them have played together for years so I don't think you'll have the pettiness that can often dismantle a team. They know who can do what. And I don't believe there's ever been a team in Turlock's history that has as much experience. Most of the players have played travel ball since they were 10 and have hundreds of games under their belt. How many other area teams can say that? And the coaching staff is one, if not the, most experienced and best around. Most are also baseball guys first. Coaching won’t be an issue. And the X factor – parents – won't be an issue. Most have known and got along well with each other since their kids were in Little League. There are a lot of positives and as you can tell I don’t think there’ll be too many issues Will all this add up to a great season? Ask me in late May... but it's looking good!

Crash.. You make some good points the best one is the big X factor and I hope your right about kids and parents some cannot make that adjustment from starter to roll player or not much playing time at all. Good luck to all the boys this school year on the field and in the class room.

It's kinda tough to follow that meaningless banter......Crash you have bored the readers with the obvious. I could have summed that up in one sentence, so to add to your post would be an overkill. I guess all I can say is, "NO SH!T".

I'd imagine some readers have a longer attention span than a gnat, unlike you. But you are as insightful as always Mikey. Good thing you're a cop and not a lawyer. The monosyllabic requirements of the job fit you better If I stated the obvious why don't you cover what I left out... Or is that too complicated for you?

You pretty much covered everything except the uniforms, which I heard were going to be some kind of "retro" crap. They apparently will go back to royal and gold and wear some barber pole stirrups. As long as they win it does not matter how they look. I don't see any potential of any kid this year wearing a hat tilted to the side like a stinkin' gangbanger. I could hear some "Ampipe" chants coming from the stands though. The fans are predicting nothing less than a CIF championship, so anything less would be a shame. The "Hen's" from the stands last year are gone and will be replaced with a more positive team oriented group led by Jim Flood, Jim Heller, Kevin Ford, Glenn Kramer, Crash and myself. Let the games begin.

Now that's more your style Mike, much better than the last retort.

Now there is absolutely no reason to resort to the use of terms like "monosyllabic" and "retort" on a baseball forum. This is baseball not lacrosse or water polo biatches!

It looks like Turlock is going to be loaded. Will be interesting with moving up players of how Pitman will be.
