Eliminating freshmen sports is a step many districts are considering. Decisions are coming in the weeks ahead and Boards make final budget revisions...

I understand that. but Freshman sports programs help students transtion into HS in a positive manner. We all can look back and remember our HS experiences, some more positively than others. I thnik HS sports help the kids stay on track and motivated for school, and keeps them connected to a peer group, and a coaching mentor.

I agree but the elimination of freshman sports does prevent a kid from playing the sport he/she wants. They just have to work that much harder to make the JV team. Sophomore will no longer have the same kind of lock on a JV position.

Wait Mark - Are you saying that the powerhouse programs play all their Freshman and JV kids "near equally?" That is different from what I have seen. Its great for many kids who wouldn't otherwise start/play but not so great for the program. Having said that, I agree that during the pre-league period that all the kids should get a good look.
BTW - The THS freshman had a good turn out today and looked pretty good defensively. The took advantage of lots of walks and Evan and Marchant got it done on the hill. Its was fun to see them play so well.

dont you think that not having /eliminating freshman sports makes it more difficult for those kids who cant afford travel teams -it eliminates kids ability to develop unless that a natural ability.....

He might be afraid to identify himself in fear of a son/brother getting the shaft from the establishment. He hasn't offended anyone yet, so let him stick around. As far as some of us having SuperStars as sons, I can only speak for my own......he is a decent player for a 13 year old. Me on the other hand, the older I get the better I was. By the time I'm 60 I should be in Cooperstown.
The amount of savings they projected by eliminating freshman sports was not substantial. They could scale back and still offer a program of some sorts. I think there are other ways to cut the fat without jeopardizing sports or teachers pay/jobs.

I should clarify: The Establishment is not the coaches, it's the cackling hens in the bleachers that seem to have a little juice in this community.

thanks trevor...and as for budget cut lets maybe start at the top and cut 1 position from every high school for someone who make $100,000 a year -Im sure they (administration)would manage....Poof than all moneys problems for all three level of sports are solved.Lets not forget everything is supposed to be about/for the kids.....Maybe if they were getting paid what these coaches do per hour theyd all quit

EVERYONE gets paid more than the coaches... custodians & administrators. Great point!
