Just got a text. Apparently THS has corrected the problem and replaced their major Payne.

BTW - This isn't a newspaper but the source said it was "official" and he is a well connected member of this forum. He may choose to identify himself later.

It's a shame that so much talent will never be exposed due to the political b.s. that goes on in this town. It makes me wonder how the Soderstrom's, Riechart's, Mendonca's and others have managed to get out of this town in one piece. This whole situation is embarrassing for everyone. I see it getting worse the next few years. It's pretty sad when Jim Green starts to make sense.......

Have you guys ever played for Payne? Do the young men that have feel the same way abut him as the vocals on this site and apparently the decision makers? It's pretty apparent the parents don't like his techniques, but do the players.. that is what is important.

I think both are important. I don't know much about this Payne guy. I have heard that several of the players liked him and his techniques. I think he was both an antagonist and a vicitm. He came in like gang-busters and upset a program with a strong legacy and popular coach. He tried to change everything at once and offended so many people that any good qualities he had were overwhelmed. That is his responsibility and now his legacy. He'll be an asterix on De La Motte's 2nd edition of "The History of THS Baseball."
There is plenty of blame to go around and much of that blame belongs to the THS administration for the poor handling of the situation. I also hope that the parents of the young men at the center of the controversy hold there children responsible for their behavior.
This could have just has easily occured at Pitman if Tate had left so lets not pretend that it could only happen at THS. I do think Hollars would have quashed this BS in a heart beat though.

i think this was more than just about those 2 kids...................they were probly just the last straw.........................admin, parents, alum, former coaches, ect........were quite upset when the THS staff went from one of the best in the SJS to one that had 4 coaches (Total) at all levels with ZERO head coaching experience (and 3 of which had ZERO baseball coaching experience) when promises were made to bring in a top notch coaching staff..................

I disagree that THS administration didn't handle it well. Many things have been going on and the guy is just a liar. He tells people to their face one thing and does the opposite. Hollars would not have handled it any different. Those who were involved know what actually happened and the rest should mind their own business. Parents are turning this into a witch hunt. Parents need to sit back and think how they would feel if it were their child. You never know what "Little Johnny" is going to say or do when you are not around. I think it is an unfortunate situation and until the parents can let it go the drama will continue. From what I heard the players didn't seem to be bothered by it at the game yesterday. Not sure why the parents who have kids starting are so worked up?

this guy should have been gone in summer /beginning of school when he lied to adm about meeting w/all old coaches then firing them-he told adm. no one was on board w/his changes and where he wanted to take the program .Whether you like last years coaches or not Mendonsa had @12 coaches out there with about 80 years experience between them. I dont have problems w/change but this guys unprofessional behavior and him running his mouth is what got him fired....no amount of mommy/daddy complaints did this -he did

The one thing that seems to have been over-looked by everybody is that Mendonca stepped down, he was not fired. With every other sport and head coach the admin. lets them pick their own staff. Nobody told Rob who his j.v. coach was gonna be. I have talked to several of the players (more than 10) and they like Payne and want to play for him. I was shocked as the next guy about the two cuts but multiple players told me that they were warned several times to step it up, show up, be on time and they ignored the warnings. With the exception of S. Gilbert there is nobody at THS that should get the chance to take over. Whoever gets the job I feel sorry for.......better yet just let Trevathan and Cusenza coach the team since they seem to have all the answers and facts.
