As far as location for the sections to be closer to home, I spoke with the DA for 61 yesterday at the game and he said that Hanford did not file their paper work to host it at their complex. Hanford is the farthest north for their district. What I have been totaled the way the sections and divisions are decided is the following:
All the districts come together and set up a five year plan on who will host 10, 11, 12, 14 and 16 year old sections and divisions. Example: District 61 says they will host the 12's in 2008 and maybe District 10 says, will host the 12's in 2009. Within their district, they look at what is maybe the best possible place to host the tournament. But of course as most of you know the fields must have grass infields, pubic bathrooms, hotels and etc. The rest of the levels are divided up with the district. I do not know what is a head of us with the balance or the rest of the age groups in the years to come.
Because of the lack of interest in the Juniors and Seniors through out the valley, that is why you see we seem to host the sections every year with one of the two.
Yes, it would have been nice to cut off an hour/hour and a half to travel to Hanford. Taft is a good 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive. I have not been down there for quite a while but what I do remember is Hanford had a nice 4 field complex.
Great job last night team. Most of you know me enough that I never try to talk bad about umpires being an umpire myself. I will be the first to admit if I made a mistake (right Greenie) if I am in error. But this tournament has only used 2 umpires in each game which is the least they can use. There is no reason not to have 3 umpires for the games at this level. A close at third the other night, being out of position (3rd umpire would have helped) and last night the base umpire tried to call Murf out for leaving to soon (a softball rule) or not on the base at the time of the pitch. Yes, we all are human and we all do make mistakes but at this level as an umpire we must make sure we are in position and try to make the right call at those times. After all we always do get 50% of the calls right.
Good luck tonight team. Great job representing Turlock Baseball and District 19.
