I'm posting this for Lance as he can't post for some reason. Its a great topic for discussion.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am involved in both education and baseball so I come
it this issue from both sides. It is very
disheartening as a teacher to hear that a good number
of our students will not be attending their once a
year Open House at school. This event is a
culmination of everything that has been done all year
long and to celebrate a year’s worth of hard work.
The reason some of our students will not be attending
ranges from having a baseball game to having baseball
practice. Practice! They are worried that the coach
will be upset they miss practice!
I understand different schools Open House Night is on
different weeks, but it would be much appreciated if
next year, the Board could look at this issue and not
schedule games on the majority of the nights where
Open House will be. I do not blame you for the
parents decision to skip a game and attend an Open
House and I hope you can stress this to your coaches
to not penalize a kid for missing for a school
function.
