How does everyone feel about the Homerun Record getting ready to fall with all the controversy behind Bonds?
If you were pitching to Bonds and he had 715, what would you do? If you were the manager would you let your pitcher pitch to him?

I would drill him everytime he comes to the plate. End his career one short of the record.

He cheated on his wife, taxes, and baseball. Maris and Aaron's achievements have been tarnished b/c the luster of their records has been lost in the history books due to those who cheated. I've heard some say they didn't cheat b/c MLB had not banned steroids... but that is a baseless (and senseless) argument b/c they didn't need to b/c the gov't had already declared them illegal. I think the end result will be that the holders of these two records will now be looked at like those of the all time leading rusher in the NFL and the career scoring leader in the NBA... Worthy accomplishments, but Jabbar and Smith are never confused with being the greatest players in their sport.
Due to the revelations of steroid use the last few years the HR records will no longer mean as much to baseball fans. That is until someone we believe to be "clean" breaks the record. My hope is A-Rod shatters whatever mark Bonds ends with. Ironically, Bonds, rather than enlarge his legacy, has greatly diminished it. We'll never know what he may have accomplished on his own merits. Had he played clean he may have likely gone down as the best ever, the title currently bestowed upon his Godfather. Who knows how many more bases he would have swiped had he remained clean or how many 30/30 or 40/40 seasons he may have notched. I think he certainly would have surpassed the 500 HR plateau. And he would have been looked at as great outfielder. But I think the vast majority of intelligent Americans realize the accomplishments he's achieved over the latter part of his career are attributed to chemicals rather than personal achievement. And these last few years he's been nothing short of pathetic in the outfield and on the bases... But I somehow believe that adjective will be the one most commonly used in describing Bonds and "his" accomplishments. And though they no longer hold the top spot in the record books the legacy of Maris and Aaron have regained their proper spots in the court of public appeal. Karma is an amazing thing...
And somewhere Pete Rose is rolling his eyes... and probably placing a bet!

He's the best player of the juiced era. I thought the Sheffield interview on Real Sports offered some pretty good insight into what Bonds is really like. Mcguire, Canseco, Sosa, Giambi - what the difference. Crash - I heard Nolan Ryan and George Brett dabbled too.

How can he be the best player of his era when, if given the chance, most any GM would specifically NOT include him on their team? He's not worth the headache. Griffey, A-Rod, and several others could fill his shoes just fine and you'd be minus one huge pain the the azz. You'd not suffer any losses for not having him on the team and probably gain a few W's because the team would not have a divide. Great players bring something to the table - all he brings is excess baggage... Baseball (fans, players & mgmt alike) can't wait for him to break the record - only because that way we can all move on and forget the man ever existed. His breaking of this cherished record is all but meaningless except for the a few nitwits in San Fran. Even the Giants can't wait to get rid of him. I'd bet if they had to do it all over again they'd have let him do it in an Angels uniform.

I was pushing your buttons bud. I have to say from 00-04 a lot of GMs would have put up with the PITA.

IMO its simple.... You play the game to win....who cares if Bonds is up... You pitch to the batter not the name

Any way you look at it Bonds IS the "SHOW", He has and continues to draw the largest crowds in baseball...He helped build a Beautiful Park in SF that my family will enjoy long after he retires..."GO BARRY"

He may be hated but the Giants have been one of the top "road team" attendance draws for years....I guess people just like to "BOOOOOO"

We were at the game today and saw Bonds up close. He wasn't too friendly considering we were just about several feet away from him. Now see how Michael Jordan acts with a kid. Thats why MJ is loved and Barry is hated.
