Just curious what your thoughts are (no right or wrong answers folks so play ball ... What's the dumbest rule in baseball? You can anser pro as well as Little League if you want. Dumbest rule in baseball - if you get hit by a thrown baseball while running to first you're out (by rule, if applied appropriately) if you are in fait territory. I say dumb becasue the last few steps you pretty much have to be in fait territory b/c the bag's in fair territory. Doesn't make sense! Dumbest rule in Little League... don't get me started! I'll just go w/ my pet peeve; a coach can not warm-up the pitcher. Dumb b/c you may not have a player on the bench capable of safely catching the pitcher (esp. in minors). I understand LLs reasoning (sort of) and that's b/c they want kids to learn how to catch - but the time to teach catching is in practice. Every year I have players that I don't feel safe with warming up the pitcher...

The dumbest rule or at least the dumbest interpretation of the rule came in Madera during all stars this year. Some young umpire insisted that only one player at a time could hit wiffles and that they had to have a helmet on.

I think the dumbest rule in LL baseball is the proof of residence. Since I am a board member I will uphold the rules and follow them, but proving your address with 3 bills, and then when AS comes around we have to mark the address on a map. The problem then is that since the map has to show all the boundaries, you get a large map and loose the detail on it. Then you are just guessing about where the kid lives and marking them down. If they want to get serious about proof of identity, then they need to use photo badges. Have them signed off by the president, and the players show them to the Tournament Director. That to me is the most logical and fool proof method. But if some one wants to cheat, they will. Mel

It's similar in travel ball too. A tourney director can look at all the birth certificates he wants but w/o a photo ID there's no proof the BC belongs to the name on the line-up card... I think they should have to show the BC and a photo ID. Most schools provide them.
