Well the draft is over for both National & National South. The National side will field 5 teams and National South will field 3 teams.
Rob Spiller's As went young and should do well this year but may dominate over the next few years if they can hang with Gil's young Cardinal team.
The Dodger are loaded but they were already.
The D'Backs are a question mark but like the A's have a good new coach in Omar Perez. They have a few very good players and Omar will bring out the best in them.
All that being said, the Giants owned the draft and now let the sh** slinging begin!

Craig ~
I guess you had an epiphany following Robyn's stinging rebuke in the paper. I thought LL was all about us dad's living our unfulfilled dreams through our kids. Damn, now I have to rethink my son's entire LL experience. [tongue pressed firmly against cheek]

I wouldn't call it an epiphany! lol It certainly didn't sting... It was, however, a revelation of character.
And is "travel ball" such a bad thing? It seemed to me that was what she inferred...
It seems to me, too, that players have always desired the "hot" product - whether it is was a Babe Ruth autographed model glove, a Mickey Mantle signature wood bat, a Stealth, or a Catalyst. I don't believe that's changed through the eras, has it? Wanting to wear the same jerseys as the pros is nothing new either. It's only natural that our youngsters want to emulate their heroes. It doesn't seem that long ago kids were making basket catches ala the Say Hey Kid or flapping their arm wildly like Joe Morgan.
Despite what some may think I think, I believe that Turlock Little League has much to be proud of and is a great experience for kids. Over the last year or so we have healed old wounds between A/AE and N/NS. We will be playing each other again and sharing fields for the first time in ages and everyone I know, parents, players and coaches alike, are excited about it. It seems we are on the verge of having the first City Championship Tournament and everyone is excited about that as well. It will involve MORE teams and players than the TOC, keep revenue in town, create excitement even for those that don't make it to the tournament, and that is nothing short of awesome.
Many of our players love the "game" so much that they have joined travel teams and continue to play after the Little League season. And the coaches of these teams, who are Little League coaches as well, continue to donate their time to make this happen. And all the changes that are taking place in Turlock LL is done to a large degree by parents and I don't see this volunteerism as only wanting to help their kids... The hours put in by these civil leaders benefits all our youth. We have built bridges this off season - so when the question is posed, "What's Happening to Turlock Little League" my answer is GREAT things! And I am proud to be a part of it!
I applaud everyone whose positive energy, time and vision have made this happen.

Lance: Sometimes the twigs do not fall far from the tree. If your boys had such a bad time, perhaps it is how your framed the experienced. Sorry to be harsh. But you have such an influence over your children that this can be a way to make a negative their whole life. I am not sure if you know my children. My son Kevin is about 5' 4" and his wife is 4'9" on a good day. Tony, my husband is 5'0" on his best day, and with wishful thinking. The reason I am saying this, is the grandchildren have inherited this trait. But we have trained them to do the best with what they have. To take the slings and nasty remarks that the other children give them and turn it into a joke that the others will laugh at. At tryouts, my 10 yr old GS was told by another kid, "I saw your movie, LITTLE MAN". Dusty came back with Yeah, I saw yours, "FAT ALBERT". Instead of Dustin being laughed at, he was laughed with. He didn't say it mean, he smiled and make sure that the first kid knew he was joking. He used body language to tell the kid that he was just funnin' and that he wanted to be friends. This is what I taught his dad, and his dad has taught his son. You are going to be small, Fact of life. Make the best of it. Perhaps if you taught you boys that things are not always going to be fair, but you can still make the best of it, they can have fun. I suggest you try this. It can really make a difference it their young life. I am not trying to say stay in LL. I have 12 grand kids, and I love all kids. My calling to life was to be an adolescent psychologist. If I had not developed migraine headaches so depilating where I still have them daily, I would still be working with my children. Be positive, take everything that happens to your children and turn it into a learning situation. They will be stronger for it. Do not let them think of them selves as victims because they will then be victims all of their lives. I don't know you. But I do have an interest in every young person becoming all that they can be. Let them know that even if they did not have the best experiences in LL, then they can use that to know what they like and dislike and make sure to realize that. Now it is not all bad, because they learned something.
Sorry, I grandma everyone.

Mel,
Thank you for your comments and I have thought about them. You make a lot of sense. I know how cruel kids can be and it's not fair. Like I said in my last post, it's just baseball and there are many more important things in life. I am sure it was not easy to share your story about your grandchildren but I took it to heart. For them the experience of playing baseball should let them forget about everything else and just enjoy the game. I have a degree in early childhood development, was a program director for at-risk youth for Community Action Program, and now teach elementary school. I presented to my Master's Program Class on the Effects of Positive Thinking and Reinfocement with Students. But most importantly, I have learned that people older then me, need to be listened too. Experiences are knowledge. I know exactly what you are talking about.
This time of year I teach about goals and resolutions. One of my favorite lessons becuase it is a life lesson. I share my goals with my students. I tell them they should have a life goal. I share my life goal with them. It is to make a positive difference in the life of every child I teach. Pretty vague but it is something I try to stick too. YOur words sound just like mine.
You would have made a great adolescent pyschologist. You are one of the great people involved with LL. That is why I am sure it is hard to see players having a bad experience. But you are right, there are always some positives you can take from everything you do.
With that said, my own boys will tell you that they had a bad experience in LL. It is then my job to take your advice and let them see the positive things. I do. There are much worse things in this world. They will learn and move on from it. It is just so hard to see adults in power positions causing these problems.
