Ahh the list, #2 would be my all time favorite "watch for the bunt sign with 2 strikes". ala Duane Alamieda. whats wrong with that. i have given the bunt sign with 2 strikes before?

I thought it was the other way around sit on the fast ball and adjust to the curve. I have one for you guys what is it with these teams trying to hold a runner on second and having the ss cut in front of the runner while going back to his position do these people not know all the runner has to do is break for third base and run into the ss and he gets the bag no matter if he is out or not for interference. I really can not understand teaching this to your players. Mike I think the power L has to be the best one in a long time I heard this so much when he was in the minors. Another good one I have heard is telling the pitcher to make sure he gets his leg kick in or get your leg up even though you are in the stretch with runners on base. What happened to the slide step and giving your catcher a chance to throw the runner out. The list just keeps going but as the old saying what works for some may not work for others.

Yeah, I'd like to hear the whole "Power L" sales pitch. I think that's one of those gimmicks I was talking about. Actually I've heard part of it and disagree with it... It creates a push and I prefer the lead with the knob/throw the bat head apporach, which creates the "Power V" - maybe whoever came up with the power L screwed up their consonants...

I love when parents/coaches yell out, "Come on, just throw strikes!" I want to say "no shit he would if he could." Nothing like a little added pressure from mom, dad or the coach.

How about confusing a ten year old, tell him to throw strikes and when he does and gets hit hard, then say ,"Don't throw him anything good". Or pitch around him. It's no wonder we have so many uncoachable smartazzs in baseball.

Yeah, that's not exclusive to 10 year olds... I hear coaches yelling that at all levels and never understood it... Pros hang pitches, no one is perfect, and none of these boys are trying to give up doubles or homers.

I got a question with knob/throw approach, by doing that, will it allow you to get your hips moving faster, and create bat speed as well hitting down on the ball.

Bunt with 2 strikes.....Dodger hat, say no more J/K i do it quite often too. in fact we have done it 5 times this fall and were successful 3 times the other 2 were outs for failing to put the bunt down. its an easy call when a kid is batting in the low .100s to have him bunt all the way

That might work with 15's but with 12 and unders if there good enough to put a bunt down with 2 strikes you would probably rather not take the bat out of his hand.

its easier at the level we are playing at (17 and 18s) to know who can do what and who cant. and what roles kids will be playing for a team, while at 12s many kids are developing and many are still super raw.

I'm not an adovate of hitting down on the ball... and as far as I'm concerned the hips provide nothing more than the foundation. It's bat speed that matters and the hips don't generate bat speed, the hands do (to the hips need to be in the right position, but again, everything follows the hands). I've got a Hitting Fundamentals page at turlockrangers.com for the full scoop...
