To the parents of the A's players. Yes there is talk of the changing the name. But that will be up to the players. PLAYERS. The team name will have to be changed next year no matter what because of an agreement with American and American East to have all names in National and National South be in agreement with the Professional leagues. National South will have change 2 names, and National is one, the A's. The American League will have the Professional American League names. This way when we interleague ( an exciting new development) we will not have the same teams playing the same teams. But it was agreed by the President when I asked him to allow the players to decided either to change and if they want to change what team to change to. So please parents, let it be their decision. Decision making is a difficult skill to master, and one that something with type on small importance should be left to them. It will not matter a whole lot down the road, and yet they will have gained a new skill, decision making with a group. Thanks Mel PLayer Agent. (Always watching out for my players)

Oops! Meant to have a reply in the same box as quote. How is this a player decision, when it is being decided by the BOD of both leagues to change names to the respective Major League names? When our son was drafted we expected to have 4 years as one team plus brother rights. This allows you to customize certain items which I think is a great option for the kids. I found out through this forum that name changes were a possibility, but not this year, so we purchased certain items for our son in the offseason, expecting to use them this year. Now certain board members want to change just the A's team and no other team this year and they are hiding behind the "its for the kids" mantra. I like Chris's idea of the defense is in the outfield and the offense is at bat. There could still be an Angel team playing a Reds team with the same color uniform. If you want to change names then change them, but it is your decision board members and not the kids. You approached them, they did not go to the meeting and ask to have a different name.

Dave The BOD decided when we approved interleague it would also make sense to have the National side have names from the National league and hopefully the same goes with the American side. There was talk about giving the A's a fresh start this year. With a new manager in place the thought was to change the name and give the team a new direction. The BOD gave your team the option to change this year or next and from what I understand the team VOTED to change to the Nationals. Next year the Yankees and Angels will have a name change also.

I understand lining up the leagues to match the National and American pros, but do we change names of any team that has a bad year. Part of drafting kids is to build for the future and sometimes you are going to be young and suffer through tough seasons. I'm mainly upset that Melody has made this out to be a "kids" decision when the decision to change names was made by adults.

Jim- I think the point everybody seems to be missing is that why is the A's the only team changing this year, when everybody else will be changing next year? I don't think Melody and Tony showed up to anyone else's practice and gave them the spiel we got. Yes, the kids were given the option of changing, however, it was presented in such a way that staying the A's was overshadowed. Whether or not we actually will be the Nationals is still undecided. Apparently Bilson's isn't sure whether or not they can get the apparel in time. If that's the case, I heard we will then be the Padres. If the Nationals was the kids pick, why then can't it start next year, and we remain the A's this season? Bottom line- it's bullcrap that the A's is going to be the only change made starting this season.

That's a good point. All of the teams should have to change this or next yr. That's great that the kids got to choose, but it's not fair that only the A's had to change and not the Yankees and the Angels. If we move fast, The Yankees could become the Padres or Pirates and the Angels could become the Phillies or the Reds.
What does everybody think.

A lesson learned for us is: stick with basic black cleats, a generic windbreaker, generic equipment bag, batting helmet, etc... Anybody need green and yellow custom cleats? all that stuff should be able to be returned, that is except for the NIKE ID cleats

THAT SUCKS BETH. OBVIOUSLY THE BOARD HAS IT OWN AGENDA. HOW LONG HAVE WE HAD "AMERICAN LEAGUE " TEAMS NAME IN THE NATIONAL. I DONT THINK THE KIDS REALLY CARE ABOUT WHAT LEAGUE THERE TEAM NAME COMES FROM. IF THE A'S WERE TO PLAY THE A'S ONE WOULD BE ON THE FIELD AND THE OTHER BATTING. PRETTY EASY TO TELL THEM APART. THIS IS ONLY TO SATISFY THE ADULTS.....
