Morning Beth,
Many points have been given by Chris and Melody about your feelings and decission by the BOD to not have Vic back as coach of the A's. Personaly I saw MUCH improvement from the boys on the A's team last year. In the second half they were in many games until the final out was made. The one thing to me that stood out in your post was that some of the boys will have played for 3 different coach's during their time in the majors. My son was drafted as a 9 even tho he was 8. Because of the change in birthdates by Little League he gets to play 5 years in the majors as some others do as well. My point is he will have his 3rd manager this year. His first manager he played for was also voted by the BOD as not to return. Sometimes one can learn more from different coaching styles. I am sorry that Vic will not be returning as I have known Vic for many years. Hopefully because a coach is not returning will not have influence to the boys returning. Baseball is baseball regardless of who is coaching. Take what you can and learn from it. Play hard and have fun!!! I wish your son much success this year and in years to come.

I don't feel that a change in coaches will negatively impact the kids. Kids have adults moving in and out of their lives all the time. Teachers change from year-to-year and kids move from sport to sport and deal with coaching changes all the time.
The kids will take their cues from the adults. I am certain that if the parents of the A's (or whatever the teams new name is) don't frame things negatively the kids will have a great time. I know the A's have a great opportunity this year. They have the first pick, they have coaches rights and brother rights which will allow them to pick up some skilled players.
It should be a great new year for the A's.

Great point Chris. Bosses change, co-workers come and go - life happens (but not always the way we want it to). Teaching kids to adapt to new situations will enable them to succeed in life. Often (always?) it's the attitude we take towards a situation that determines the outcome. I'm sure if these boys and families go into it with an open mind and don't have a negative vibe about what happened, the season will be fun. The boys and families have no control over what happened but they can control the way they respond to it. Bottom line is if they enjoy baseball they should enjoy the season.

You're so right Crash. Youth is such a fleeting thing. I don't think there is anything better than youth sports for preparing kids for adulthood. When we shelter our kids from every bad experience (or potentially bad) we fail to prepare them for the more serious issues they'll confront as adults. I would advise everyone to quit making the argument that "its for the kids." Its a position that everyone seems to want to stake out. All sides use the argument "its for the kids." This clouds the actual issue which is usually a hidden agenda, a personal issue or perceived slight of the adults involved. 99% of the problems in Little League are about the adults not the kids. Please always remember this forum is for the kids! Yeah right

Chris The A's might not be the A's this year? We already got our son his new equipment for the season in A's colors. Say it isn't so!

We love Robert Spillers! He was Nicks coach as an 7 year old. He has TONS of passion for the game and kids. If he does take over the A's....consider yourself lucky! Sandra Avila

To the parents of the A's players. Yes there is talk of the changing the name. But that will be up to the players. PLAYERS. The team name will have to be changed next year no matter what because of an agreement with American and American East to have all names in National and National South be in agreement with the Professional leagues. National South will have change 2 names, and National is one, the A's. The American League will have the Professional American League names. This way when we interleague ( an exciting new development) we will not have the same teams playing the same teams. But it was agreed by the President when I asked him to allow the players to decided either to change and if they want to change what team to change to. So please parents, let it be their decision. Decision making is a difficult skill to master, and one that something with type on small importance should be left to them. It will not matter a whole lot down the road, and yet they will have gained a new skill, decision making with a group.
Thanks Mel PLayer Agent. (Always watching out for my players)

Thanks to all who had comments/knowledge concerning whether or not the A's will still be the A's this year. From a financial aspect, I know that a lot of the kids are pretty decked out with their green/yellow gear. Once drafted to a team, a common presumption is that you will be there for 3 or 4 years. Meaning you go out and buy a team jacket, colored bat bag, helmet, cleats, underarmour, etc... Oh well, it's only money I guess. Whatever the boys decide.

Great point. I know my parents bought a lot of Cubs stuff and it would be a shame to change while their kid was still in the league... of course there will always be someone in that situation, so what to do? The solution is fairly easy (I think). Rather than changes names for teams that play just once a year (Yanks vs. Yanks) the leagues can get together and one team can be wear grey pants, the other white. That way when they play each other the uniforms are a little different. One of the Yanks teams could wear pinstripes for the season, the other the navy blue tops...
Whether you have teams with the same name or not it's still a problem. When the Cubs play the Dodger both teams have blue jerseys and hats. I doubt there will ever be a scenario where this doesn't happen from time to time.

You guys are right. I think changing the name of the team because they've had a couple of poor seasons is silly. I think the adults are over thinking this one and making mountains out of mole hills.
