Tony ~
You looked like the real thing tonight. I think its time for you to hold a clinic on how to call pitches. Excellent job! The cream shirt was a nice touch. ;D BTW - Thanks very much for the help tonight.

Speaking of great calls.....Mr. Reichert was nice enough to let the Cubbies slide on a ball that our first baseman dropped. Congratulations to the Yanks, they are the only team that has beaten us that I didn't walk away thinking we should have won. I can't even blame this one on Crash. I will say that I was shocked to see the Cubbies swinging at the first pitch last night......LOL

The umpires tha I have seen at Soderquist have done a great job and since they are rotating between Julien and Soderquist, I can only say that both fields are having great umps. (Yes even Zimmer, lol). I once had an umpire that I greatly admired tell me that you can't just adjust your umpire method to try to "get" a team. That most umpires have thier umping method ingrained, the best ones do, from all the years and practice of umping. Gregg Clapper went on to explain that when managers and coaches complain that one ump is calling just to get "their" team, they don't realize that is normally very hard for an umpire to do at the level of Little League. Some umpires at Professional level can, but Little League normally is it muscle memory and as such they are just doing their best. That each night, they are like the rest of us, just doing their best. I for one, thank them for doing their best for the season and for the Tourneys, rather it be the City Championship, the TOC or the All Stars. I also want to that Paul and Jerry and all who put together the schedule so that we have proof that the umpires were set and in place prior to the Tournament even starting. Thanks. It didn't make my job easier last night, but it did show that the everyone is trying to prevent even the illusion of favoritism or the opposite. To bad the kids had to pay for that.

Mel, I don't see how the kids had to pay for my little tirade with Lyle Zimmer and Ralph behind the score booth before the game started. None of the kids knew what took place. It was BULLSHIT that Lyle did our game behind the plate. I wonder how he would of called it if I didn't say something before hand. When a piece of crap like Lyle can call me every name in the book behind my back at a football game (I was told he was jealous that the Pee-Wee's had a quarterback)and I don't even know the LITTLE MAN. Then he only wants to ump Dodgers games this year. When he finally does our game he calls 6 strikes against Jesse and Patrick that were maybe 2 inches off the plate. I'm looking at him after he did it to Pat and he's grinning from ear to ear. I know there are a lot of people who probably don't like be but if you mess with my son over it you better be ready to pay a price. His umping didn't cost us the game last night our pitching did. I just can't understand why he couldn't be moved to a base instead.

It was nice to have Brad and Murphy given the concern yesterday. Again nice to see Murphy out at games again. I think the situation lent to how valuable Murphy can be for youth baseball in Turlock.
With respect to the Zimmer Situation, I can understand this was predetermined; however, their was tension and history between de ump and da dodgers. Play calling was not an issue yesterday as Pads came to play and shut the Dodgers out at all levels. But, I do believe accomodations could have been made. I would have approached this more diplomatically. But I agree with bringing attention to the issue so that all BOD members at the game were aware. Some would call this tactic inappropriate....but, from a coaching perspective voicing the displeasure was the only option. However, I would have approached it more diplomatically.
Finally, I know None of our Coaches shared any of these concerns with Dodger players.

Probably couldn't have been handled any worse. Jim knows it. I had a blow up last year with a coach that I thought was wrong for our league. I was wrong in confronting him the way I did at the field. I understand that you work hard all season and you want to put your team in the best position to win.
That having been said, I have to agree with Clapper. I have yet to see an umpire "intentionally" make biased calls. I have seen some lousy strike zones and lousy calls but I can't say I have ever seen one made with the intention of putting a team at a disadvantage. I know I didn't have the capacity when I umpired.
I think Lyle does a very good job behind the plate. I also know he gives as good as he gets when he's umping. Give him sh** and he'll give it back to you. He may even start sh** first. However, you can't make me believe that he would ever make a call as an umpire at the expense of a kid. I may be naive but I'm certain he wouldn't.
Jim is my friend (a good enough friend that I feel I can post honestly and remain friends) and he's worked as hard as anyone this year to make Soderquist as good as it can be. We give each other sh** all the time on this forum but he's great for Turlock Little League. He made a mistake and I think he knows it. I don't think it will happen again but bringing it here won' help. He'll make a great manager next year. Its time to take it off line.

Not every situation is going to be to our liking, but it can be fair.
Rules were determined before the 1st pitch, other than opening games umpires were determined before as well. All umpires were given an OK by all on the committee and were placed according to their strengths and availability long before teams were known.
As a coach I would of like to pick and choose my blues, that not reality.
As good as Tony looked and performed it would not be right to place him or Coop or anybody else on all plate jobs. This is a volunteer system and we will share the wealth.
These are good crews and we are 100% behind all the ump’s.

Ok guys I do not know what happened last night before I got to Soderquist and I do not care to know. All I can say is from my position at 2nd base Lyle did a hell of a job behind the plate and called it as fair as I could have. He even came out to me in between innings and asked how I thought his strike zone was and I said I see no problems. This guy is donating his time to the community and to the league and I have to side with Chris on this. As a grown man, coach, and a dad with a kid that plays this game I can not see Lyle or any other umpire intentionally take his madness or anything else out on the kids. I have had disagreements with umpires and have been tossed out of a couple of games but then afterward me and the umps have a beer together. It is nothing personal it is just the competitive nature in all of us. Lyle even asked me if I wanted to do the plate and I told him no. Jim I agree about what you said about your kid but dude grudges just keep eating and eating away at you until things happen for no reason. Lyle is human just like all of us and he deserves the respect that all of us deserve no matter what has happened in the past and the same goes for you Greenie. Life is to short lets all just sit back and enjoy what is in front of the kids and hopefully that is alot more baseball. By the way guys I really appreciate all the kind words from everyone and I enjoy umpiring about as much as I do coaching.

Jim, You being upset is what upset the players. Don't insult the players intelligence by pretending that they don't know what you were upset about. I watched both Jesse and Patrick trying to aim the ball instead of just pitching like they did when I have watched them before. I was able to see you still talking about the umpire and Jim, you have a voice that carries, and they know that you were upset about the umpire. You have not made a secret of the fact that you did not like Zimmer as an umpire, and so 1 plus 1 equals 2 and Kids can add. I don't know Jesse very well so I won't speak for him, but just working with Patrick tonight I have gotten to know Patrick a little bit, I can say I can see that Pat is very smart and he can figure it out what you are upset about. I don't think he was thinking you were upset that they have cancelled the McRib again. Speaking of the kids that I worked with tonight, most of them did a great job, they just did not have the attention span for the long haul. Patrick did a great job with the pitch count and Cody McG. also was great with the mechanical pitch count thingy and help keep the pitch count accurate also. Dustin L. and Young Mr. Cook, (Can't remember which one was up there) were helpful with the scoreboard, and Brennan H. and Jenson E also were great on the mike. (That is until the attention span was gone with Jens, just like his Dad!) Thanks Guys.
