We've already picked up one alternate when a player decided not to play. We found out Friday night that Kyle wouldn't be playing and that's hardly enough time to fill a spot. Anyone we called up wouldn't have had any practice time. This is tournament ball now and we'll go with the number of kids that best serves our main objective and that is to win the tournament.
If we need to bring up another player to help us win you can bet we'll do it.
I'm not sure why the coach pulled his pitcher. Perhaps he saw something we didn't. I think he was hoping to use his closer to completely shut us down. It's a tough position to put a kid in without any real warm up. The strike zone was pretty small last night. Had our hitters been a little more patient we should have scored 10 runs.
Cumberland's team will be a lot tougher but American was a good warm-up.

brian
this is just me and i have nothing at all to do with LL, except a few volunteer umpired games this year, i carry 11 players on my travel team and i will not pick up another player unless he is better than the players i already have.
now i can see how a manager in LL would want to do the same conssidering in LL there are minimum play requirments and in travel there are NO requirements.
i have always thought the less players on the bench, the more playing time every1 will have and the parents wont be mad, which in turn makes my job alote easier

I was not aware that any players decided not to play and an alternate was called up. I think that is great tho. I do understand as well that Kyles injury was last minute. I also know that the less players you have the easier it is to manage. I did not see where any players had or have been dropped or added to the roster so that is why I posted my opinion. As far as getting a player to fill in better than the one you already have that should not be the case in the All Stars because they are suppose to be the best players that make it right? So I would think you would take the next best to fill the posistion.
Chris the strike zone indeed was small last night but it was for both sides. Also it looked like a couple BAD calls on the bases as well but thats baseball. As far as swinging at bad pitches even the best players in the game make some bad decissions. The fact is the right team walked away with the win and thats all that matters. I think they pulled the pitcher because the kid up next was the one who took him deep. It is hard to bring in a so called closer when they have not warmed up in the bullpen to find their groove. Also that closer had a broken toe as well so I think it was a bad choice....again only my opinion. Good luck in the next game bro.

Yeah you're probably right. I'm a bit perplexed as to the change. Heck the kid had only given up two runs through 5 & 1/3. I bet it's a decision the coach would like to have taken back. I was proud of our pitcher for hanging in there despite some sloppy play in the fifth inning. Walks will kill ya in Little League and they did the job on American last night. Starting in the fourth we required all the kids to take a pitch. The American kid had benefited from the Nats chasing a lot of bad pitches. I know it helped in the 6th. We weren't looking for walks. We were just insisting the kids wait for a pitch they could drive. Boy that was a fun win. I think the rivalry is healthy for both leagues. As for walking the American cleaup hitter I'd do it again and again. The kid's a hitting machine. He doubled off Walker in the City Championship and rumors has it he went 6 for 6 in American's first AS win. Why would we pitch to the kid with a runner in scoring position, two outs and first base open? It was a no-brainer. I know it pissed off the American coaches but oh well that's baseball. As it turned out we could have tying and winning run on base but Keaton hung tough and posted a big bases loaded "K" to end the inning. BTW, Here's the game summary in case you missed it. Yeah I already read the summary Chris but thanx. Keaton has always been one to get tough when he needs to. It was definently a no brainer to walk the cleanup hitter. It also was a great game and one that the team can build off of for the games to come. Always nice to know you can come back in the last inning and get the win. I think you made a very good choice having the boys take a pitch, helps settle them down and it showed. Again bro very nice to see the Nats get that win.
