Coach's kids are a shoe in....politics and popularity are what gets you votes. All Star selections are a joke. You pat my back and I will pat yours. Hey I have an idea, let's make a special 11 year old team so all of our coach's kids can make the team. Then instead of picking more kids (Little League allows 14) let's pick 11 so our kids get more playing time. What a great idea eh? NOT!!

On the National side, the decision to take 11 was agreed upon before the coaches chose the final 5 selections. Little League also allows a team to take 9. We felt 11 would be the most competitive. I agree that coaches kids have an advantage. As for an 11 year old team being the choice of the coaches, I believe the board decided to field an 11 year old team. I don't think a single manager was at the meeting. It looks bad this year because 4 of the 5 major managers had an 11 year old son on the team. Do you have a suggestion to make it more fair?

Then instead of picking more kids (Little League allows 14) let's pick 11 so our kids get more playing time. What a great idea eh? NOT!! just because 11 were picked doesnt really mean coaches want their sons to play more as there are only 3 coaches which mean 3 sons the difference in playing time between 11 and 14 players on the roster for those 3 sons playing time will 99% of the time be [glow=red,2,300]0[/glow]the fact that only 11 were picked speaks alote of the talent level currently at TNLL and TNSLL. if there were more who could contribute greatly they would have more than likely been picked up. look mr guest AS is a whole different animal that reg season. and making substitutions in crucial tight games isnt something a manager wants to do when the subs ane not capable of playing at the same level as the starters. remember LL reg season the point is to have fun and play ball. All stars #1 priority is TO WIN

I think if you look at the 11 year old squad in Turlock nations Mr Think Blue you will see there are 5 coach's and not 3. This would mean 5 players and not 3. Also the quality of players that were selected are not the best 11 players out there. Some of those players made more errors than anyone else on the regular season teams. I realize All Stars is about winning but years past have proven Turlock Little League does not do a very good job of that....with the exception of 4 or 5 years ago when they lost to Aptos. It really doesn't matter to me as I am only a fan and not a parent of a player so it is just my own opinion of what I have seen over the past few years. I wish them well no matter and would love nothing more than TLL to win it all.

Come on Bud! With the exception of Jens all the coaches kids were selected by the kids themselves via the vote. BTW, there are only two coaches. The other two are just helping out but I wanted to acknowledge their help.

In reply to Mr. Essary's question I don't think you can ever please everyone. Some kids and their parents are always going to feel that their son or daughter deserved to make All Star's rather than another player. I just seems like the group of managers stick together in making the choice of the final picks. Yes I also know little league allows you to pick only 9 players but that would be tough to do if a player were injured. Years ago they ALWAYS picked 12 players and 2 alternates. The alternates did not play unless all selected players had already played. Sometimes a player can help in a situation where maybe another player struggles. nothing personal guys because I know it is not only the coach's making these decissions. Kinda like George Bush taking the heat for what the senate and congress do. God Bless America!!

as far as i know that are no alternates anymore. either you are on the roster or you are not on the roster. and a team that carries 14 players MUST play ALL 14 players 1 ining AND 1 AB

Yes, Little League initiated the 11 year old only team last year. They only go as far as state.

Dude ~
LOL, I agree bud. We also selected alternates but can't disclose who they are unless another kid drops. Coach's kids have to deal with the fact that they might have gotten on the team even though they may not have deserved it. I'm not saying it's right. I think its true that if the skill level is close the coach's kid gets it every time and that ain't right. I also think your right about kids getting in a slump. I don't know the answer. In the two all star selection meetings I have attended there wasn't a quid pro quo verbalized by anyone not even implied. The manager's votes are taken by secret ballot. I just don't have an answer about the kids that get over looked. If they aren't nominated there's nothing another manager can do. I do feel ya gotta field the most competitive team regardless of the numbers.

[shadow=red,left,300][/shadow][glow=red,2,300][/glow]I can't figure out how to vote but I would have to go with the oversights....especially in the 12 year olds. I think the 11 year olds were pretty much the way everyone thought they would go with the exception of some of the defense from a couple players. They should be able to hold their own tho and I wish them all nothing but good luck in the days to come. Play hard and good things will happen.

I can't say too much about the 12s because we're sworn to keep things secret but I was astonished by some of the selections the kids made this year. I think they did a great job of selecting the 11s but missed big time on the 12s.

First of all good win by th 11 year olds last night. I am still confused as to why the American coach whom I know very well pulled his son from pitching with a 3-2 lead and only 2 outs to go with no men on. Oh well worked out well for our boys Second thing is I was told that they picked 11 players and 2 alternates incase something happend to a player. I see one of the players broke his ankle but still only 10 players in the dugout. Why is it another kid is not called up just as they were not called up last year when a player quit? This is what makes us parents feel the politics of the coach's looking out for their own so they can get more playing time. No matter who that alternate is I feel it is only right for them to be called up. If they got the vote/pick to be the alternate why not let them enjoy it? Was a very exciting game from start to finish and I wish the boys continued success in the games to come.
