Does anyone think that Ripken style baseball could/should replace LL in Turlock? Or provided fields can be located could the two programs survive side-by-side here in town. I know Babe Ruth would love to develop a program here as I have been contacted by them a couple times.

it would be very hard and confusing for both to be run as they have have (i believe) separate ways of dealing with boundries but other than that, the babe ruth/cal ripken league is basically the same as LL

Ripken seems to be administratively less bureaucratic and allows leads & stealing. It would be a bit more exciting to watch & may attract some of the kids that might otherwise go elsewhere.

my bad,
i was always under the impression that ripken was the equivilant of LL Majors and babe ruth was the equivilant of LL junior/seniors.
i am barely losing the LL mentality.
had to go through a new set of rules (super series), its a headache

[shadow=red,left,300][/shadow]Ripkin seems like a good league but any league is only as good as the people who run it. Turlock has always been a clicky town no matter what league you play in. We had kids in high school that didn't make the team because players with less talent had a longtime Turlock name. I think the leading off, stealing, pickoff factor would only improve on the kids knowledge of the game for the next level. To me as long as my kid is having fun at an early age is most important. If they do not have fun the get discouraged and don't come out to play. I saw that happen this year with some players who were not having fun on the team they played for and the league would not let them change teams while other players were able to change because of who they were or who the parents were. If your gonna do this for one player then it should be made possible for all that felt the same way they did about playing for the same team/coach.

We had kids in high school that didn't make the team because players with less talent had a longtime Turlock name. do you mean THS or Pitman??? because we have been at THS for 1 year now as my brother is a freshmen and all three (frosh, jv, and Varsity) levels carried an average of 20 players. personally i thought that there were about 3 or 4 players at each level that should have been cut but werent. they are pretty good about giving kids ALOTE of chances at THS. at frosh level they ALL played equal time. at JV time was limited to the lesser players and at varsity only the top players played Rob Mendonca is a VERY GOOD coach.

[glow=red,2,300]LMAO.....yes MC I am talking waaaaaaaaaay back in 75 and 76. Alot of the players were cut that were better ball players because they went to Chattom or grew up in the surrounding area. I will not mention any names but Turlock money ment alot back then. I watched Rob as a player at THS and yes he is a very good coach. Most players that played the game at higher levels can offer the up and coming players alot of good advice and working habits to help them improve their game. I am not saying that is how it is today but it sure was 30 years ago. Chris is right....I aint no spring chicken but the arm still feels young [/glow]

I think its vlike taking off the training wheels. perhaps Little League should offer 9-12 yr old minors & 9-12 majors. The latter offering competitive baseball just like the big leafgues & the minors would be set up more like a recreation league.

Damn good idea. Highlighting it makes it a lot easy. I'll remember that if Byrd continues to use the same fonts as your typical teenage girl. ;D
