From what I have seen Tony and his family have been working hard to get the field ready and the things they have done look great.

tony's family has been working their butt off and you can really tell. a few of us other parents came out to help, i stress, a few, and thought that more people would show up to help. but i really think that more of the bod should have shown up.

Oscar ~
The hardest working folks in our Little league are the managers (followed by the U-I-C and President if they do their jobs correctly). It isn't the BOD (although we have some lazy members this year) its the parents who need to get their asses out there to help.
Our LL burdens our managers with everything because they are the only ones the BOD can dump on. Manager/coaches really want to be out there. Consequently, they are required to practice 3-4 time a week, umpire, do field prep, control unruley fans, staff the snack shack and attend every silly "mandatory" meeting a BOD member decides to schedule.
I just don't understand why field prep should fall on the BOD members. There are a couple who should get off their butts and help but most of them do plenty.

chris--agreed most managers do plenty and go above and beyond. i think we are talking about the same lazy members who like to say they do so much for the league when really they don't. it is just very frustrating.

I hear you bud and I wasn't referring to you obviously. Indeed we are talking about the same few. Every year there's a couple of folks who get on the BOD to look after "their own" interests. Once their needs are met they either quit or skate through by doing nothing. This N/NS BOD has a few of those.
I heard a rumor the major teams would only play during the week. I hope that is not true. We changed that a couple of years ago because the major managers and families didn't want to play weekends. The bottom line is the minor league kids and family get screwed by having to play every weekend. How self-serving can one be?!
If the rumor is true, there are a few (those with travel ball interests) who are pushing this schedule. Its all BS and no one is holding them accountable except us.
I'm disgusted.

exactly!!! there are a bunch of us that enjoy helping out when we can. not just for ourselves, but it helps show our kids that sometimes you have to work so that you can play! chris-do you know when we are getting the major schedule? i was told that the vp had it last week, and that is fine and dandy, but the parents need it for our work schedules, games schedules, our other children are on teams, many reasons. i just don't understand why we are only a few days away from opening day and we don't even know when we play? what gives with that?

We are parents of a "Travel Ball" player and had nothing to do with the schedule. Our team is shut down until all stars are over. If I'm not mistaken we are the only 12 year old team in town. So I don't think "Travel Ball" has anything to do with it. I heard it was the A\AE majors that wasn't playing on Saturdays due to not using Pedretti. Therefore N/NS will not be playing interleague on Saturdays. By the way just because every parent didn't show up Saturday doesn't make us all lazy parents. My husband is the guy who got TID to bring and set the pole for the parking lot. He and I went to our jobs and sold 30 boxes of cookie dough for this league above and beyond the 5 that were required. After all it's all for our children so they can have a nice field to play on. Some of us did have other things going on in real life that kept us from going.

Devina ~
Whether its travel ball or not the minor coaches and families are getting shafted.
This wasn't directed at you but it seemed to strike a nerve. I imagine the people who did show up were selling cookie dough as well. With very few exceptions (I can think of a couple) if a parent isn't coaching or on the BOD they aren't contributing anywhere near their fair share. Yet they whine if they have to pull snack shack duty. I'm not talking about all the parents but many.
Watch what happens when all stars come. It will be Mel, Tony, Tony, Brad and Ralph doing all the work.

WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE PARENTS, THE ONES THAT LIKE TO SIT IN THE STANDS AND Hottie, MOAN, AND GROAN ABOUT HOW THINGS NEED TO BE FIXED UP, CLEANED, OR CHANGED BUT WHEN YOU ASK FOR SOME HELP, THEY CAN COME UP WITH 20 EXCUSES AS TO WHY THEY CAN'T DO IT. WE ALL HAVE A LOT GOING ON IN OUR LIVES AND THE POLE WAS GREAT AND VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. THIS WAS NOT DIRECTED AT YOU.

BTW - Oscar I am the last guy that would have any knowledge of a schedule as I am no longer one of the "IN" crowd.

In the 5 years that I have been involved in Little League nobody has ever approached Mike and I for help during all stars. You have to remember the age of these minor kids. Shouldn't they be playing when there isn't school the next day. I can remember many times when Justin has a game on a weeknight and homework to do. It makes for a late night. Is that what we want for all the 7-9 year olds? We have all been in the minors and paid our dues. I can remember being in the minors and working double shifts in the snack bar because not everyone on our team would take a turn. I had a 3 month old baby that I took with me at the time. I don't do as much as I would like to but that baby is now 3 years old and takes up what little time and energy I have left over from catering to Justin's daily schedule. Some of us have to try and find a balance. We do not live in a perfect world and never will.

I know this was not directed at me. But to put all parents in the same category makes us all sound the same. You are always going to have a small group of parents who like to moan and groan and do nothing. Unfortunately it has always been that way. I really don't have a solution except all we can do is just keep doing what we're doing and maybe others will catch on.

Devina ~
We're all in the same boat. The definition of being a parent seems to be to cater to our kids daily schedule. The point you're missing is everyone that goes the extra mile has the same issues. I'm a single parent and I had 12 hours a week of practice/games, 15+ hours on the website duties and field prep and snack shack duty and umpiring. I was even busier when I was a BOD member on top of all that.
This wasn't originally directed at you but how are you any different from the rest of us? Lisa busted her ass every day in the snack shack for the past few years as a single mom. The fact of the matter is if everyone did the same as "most" parents there would be no Little League.
This statement is almost insulting. You don't think the people who showed up have other things they'd rather be doing? Give me a break!

The whole point is that everyone has better things to do than spend their whole day at the ball field. But some people make it a point to come out and help. You know its not that we wanted everyone in the entire league to come out and help we understand that people have work other obligations. However when there is only 10 out of the hundreds of parents, coaches, and managers in our league that come to help. Chris yes parents should take more of the burden off the managers and coaches, however the managers know that they were expected to come or at lease send someone from their team in their place and help prep the field the one day out of the entire year we have it. If we had just one parent just one from each of the teams come out and stay for an hour it would of been fine but we got 10. And we still didn't get everything done that needs to be done. Here a few people who i would like to thank for their time
Bill Horner-Mets Ron Wichman-Marlines Jimmy Rodger- Pirates Manager Mike Eagleston- Rockies Robert Spillers- Nationals Modesto Nuts Manager Coach from the Dodgers Gill- Cardinals The Lotspieche Family
