Thanks Scrapper I agree with everything you said and have been thinking the same things but its nice to get it from someone who's been there. Thankfully we don't have to make a decision for year and thats assuming he gets drafted. I may not have a web page for little wicked but I, being his dad, think he's pretty good for an 8 year old. ;D

He is darn good. He will do some damage as he gets older. You can tell he has that natural ability, I don't know about his coaching though I know with Little Scrapper, sometimes he gets frustrated because he can't do what he wants to do, but I tell him, you will get your time and isn't it better playing than riding the pine, whether it is right field or left field or wherever the coach puts ya.

I tried it both ways. I held Denny back as a 9 partly so I could keep him & Justin on the same team. He got to pitch every game for 3 innings in AA and was really too good for that level. When he came in as a 10 in majors he played almost every inning and led off. Justin came up as a 9, again to get them on the same team, and had to pay his dues. He sat more than he should have because I'm the coach and he is only nine even though his stats were better than half the team. He also got to catch 15 or 20 innings but the rest of the time he was in the outfield. He averaged around 270 and had an OBP in the high 400's so he was a big contribution to the team, especially for his age. I think what you should look at is the coaching and level of competition he will get in the majors. You do have the opportunity that I did not with Denny, you can put him in AAA next year. That being said, in my opinion, you get a lot more out of majors than you do the lower levels unless you want him to keep pitching. If he wants to be the star of the team immediately keep him down a year. If he wants to improve his overall baseball skills against better competition, go to the majors. Best of Luck, Dennis Serpa

Thanks Dennis, very helpful. He loves to pitch and of coarse he loves to play like all kids do. It's hard to explain the benefits of playing in the majors to an 8 year old, when the bottom line is he won't get as much playing time. I don't want to make him move up, IF he gets the opportunity. I'm hoping that he wants to, then we can work a little in the month before and see if he's drafted. And if he's not that's OK too, he'll have fun playing AAA.
