To respond to B. Baker's comments....
1. Fair enough, I agree. I was not at the 18-0 game so dont know what happened.
2. Thank you for talking to your coach about "sit down," Kids should not have to hear that until later in baseball life. It's a confidence knocker. I was talking with my players on the field during the game, I never spoke to your team or your coaches. Yes, I did say 1-0 lead, your game, shut'em down. I say that to all of my pitchers. That goes back to what we have told are kids that if you score one run you should be able to win a baseball game.
3. I said the 3rd basemens tag was not flagrant. No harm was intended. We agree on that. Kids tell you want they want you to hear. The kid was not hit after the first contact of the glove and bodies brushing together slightly. The kid might have told you that, but I do not question what I saw with my eyes, nor do the many people who say it.
And don't worry my son's eye is ok and he did not have a mark on his face, just a little red.
4. This a Have to Disagree totally. My words were this, "You throw out our starting pitcher." If you want to imply that my son is the "best" then thank you we are most humbled but I think we have a pretty good group of boys who play hard always. Two great plays by our shortstop, one great play by third base, a lead off hit by our second basemen and support from the whole team got us the lead. And your coach was the one who yelled, "What can't you beat us with the other 11." Why should we have to? Our team consists of 12 players! That whole "Adrian is the best," was started by YOUR TEAM.
5. Fine, since you kindly asked I will say that was an emotional statement with no proof or grounds and will take it back. The umpires were not paid any more then they should have been normally. I proved that I can admit a mistake and hasty, emotional decsion I made...... HOPE THE UMPIRE DOES THE SAME!!
6. I thought the home plate umpire was fine and did not have any issue before the pickle play. I agreed with everyone of his calls until then. I never even asked him anything but the count and always replied with thank you. The other umpire does a good job too. Jerry just totally went blank on his call, nobodies perfect, it happens to the best.
7. No swing, and no hit! The field umpire said he didn't see it, to be fair he said he was watching the other runners and missed the play at third completely.
Maybe nobody on the Red Sox "tried" to get him tossed, but they were sure happy when it did happen. Come on, you did not no that was coming, you or your other coaches did not jump up and say anything like "Hey he hit our kid." You didn't react becasue you were as shocked as everyone else.
8. I called all the players in YES! Why should the players have to sit out on the field while all the men were working everything out. Pull the kids inside to be with the rest of their teammates in a comfortable environment until the situation was ended. I was the only one thinking of the kids. They did not have to be in the middle of the discussion.
What remarks did I make that implied my Phillies weren't good enough? Please inform me. That came from your coaches. You probably looked at the fact that with Adrian pitching, you were scoreless in 2 games, thanks to good cathcing, defense, and pitching. The next game you could score 10 runs on us, that's baseball.
I agree with you Bob, if one of my players did anything to even try and harm another player he would be done and things would be changed before he was allowed to come back!
Thank you for your reply and it's too bad this had to happen. With that said, you won, I didn't get to shake your hand after the game but would have.
