Everyone,
You will not believe this! A certain player was tossed out of the game tonight (May 10, 5:30 game American East Philles vs. Red Sox).
He got tossed out after getting run down in a pickle between 3rd and home. The third basemen on the Red Sox made a hard tag to the face, it was not meant to be hard but the ball was up and he slapped the tag on the runners face, catching his eye. The runner, after being tagged in the face, threw his hands up for balance and to grab his face. His hands were open and no contact was made again to the third basemen.
The runner then grabbed his face and bent over, starting walking to the dugout. The home plate umpire immediately signals for the player to be ejected from the game. From my possition coaching first base, I thought the umpire tossed the third basemen. I thought that was not fair becuase the third basemen didnt mean to hurt the kid, then... I find out that he tossed the runner!!
The Red Sox fans and coaches applauded that!!! They were laughing. The Red Sox themselves knew what a terrible biased call that was made. I will not speak of the players behavior because that is learned from the adults and adults are responsible for that. The umpire was too hasty in his call and got caught up in the excitement of the moment. He made a judgement call that showed his bias and he made it as hastly and carelessly as he could. He could be seen talking and laughing with the Red Sox coaches before the game and between innings. No big deal, I guess he has friends over there.
We had a discussion with the umpire who stated himself that the runner did not make contact with the kid and did not have a closed fist, but he threw him out because he thought he "might" hurt the third basemen. (Refer to above, where the kid was hurt and hit in the eye, holding his eye. And we were winning, why would we retaliate.) It was the worse excuse I have ever heard.
This escalated to the ast. coach on the Phillies walking off the field and another player on the Phillies walking off the field and leaving the rest of the game under protest! It was that obvious that the kid did nothing wrong that another player, not even involved said enough is enough.
Did I mention that the runner ejected was throwing a no-hitter after 3 innings and the Red Sox were LOSING 3-0! They were going to loss and they knew it.
The Saturday before the Red Sox ran the score up on the Phillies 18-0, they are a good team. The Red Sox did not know what to do, losing 3-0 to the Phillies. Phillies had their number this game. And then the umpire took the game out of the kids hands and handed it to the Red Sox.
Not one person at the game saw the runner do ANYTHING to warrent being thrown out! No contact was made, no blow was thrown and missed, no words of anger were said, nothing happened even to suggest that a warning should be given. No warning was given. I dont know what a warning would have been given for in the first place! Why did this even happen? I am still very confused why the umpire just decided to toss a kid. There was no grounds or anything.
This was an obvious attempt to eject a good player from the game and give the Red Sox a chance to win. Which they did. They beat the Phillies 5-3. I congratulate the coaching staff on their victory. They must feel really good about this win. They must feel real good about knowing they have never got a runner to second base in 9 innings off of the Phillies ace. Zero runs! They werent going to score tonight either and they knew that. They can thank the umpire who took it upon himself to take the game away from the kids.
I am sure like any good parent, had your son done something wrong to try and hurt another player, you would be the first to stop him from playing and punish him accordingly. You would not tolerate that at all! If your child got away with it, it would only get worse so you would put a stop to it. Well, I agree. I am the first one to tell my child that what they did was not ok and I beleive everyone needs to take responsibility for their own actions. What do you do when your child was the victim and "railroaded" by the umpires and president of the league on the opposing team? I dont think many would accept it, I didnt.
This player (runner for the Phillies) has NEVER had one incident in baseball before, he has NEVER been in trouble at school in 8 years for a violent act, not even a minor one. He plays the game for the love of it and had that taken away tonight.
I certain player on the Red Sox was hurt, I heard, later in the game. I hope that he is ok and sorry that he got injuried. ANother collision on the field. I hope he's back and playing as soon as possible.
I am tired of people who say they are here for the kids. Everybody says that and I have found only a few people who mean it, Mr. President of LL you need to resign or get your own team under control and get some unbiased umpires.
That is the second game the Phillies have shut you down. Even when every call and widen strike zone are in your favor. Umpires know who pays them. I hope this one got paid well for giving you a chance to win.
I haven't forgetten the first game where your team took 2 runs on us while our players huddled around our injuried pitcher who was just lined drived. That's Red Sox baseball I guess, keep running when a kid is dropped from a line drive. We dont do that, it's station to station, but if that's how you want to win, then do it. Personally I like seeing my son strike your whole side out. That happens often enough.
Seriously, I want to congratulate the Red Sox players on the great season they are having, They have a very good team and lots of talent. I take nothign away from the players on the field. The Red SOx kids were cheated too. They did not have an opportunity to face the Phillies best. It's to bad the adults do not let them face the true competition that will only make them better.
We play the Red Sox again. They will probably beat us again. I just hope the table is fair the next game.
They are good. I wish them good luck.
if you can't beat'em, throw them out of the game i guess.
