Sorry Jerry, I thought that was Chris. I handled the infield, and BP for Pat ;D.. Pedro was working with the outfielders which explains the problems we had.

Great video. I meant Chris Moreno. Hell, I just always thought that was his log in name. My bad.

I don't mind the two ball out, one in IF that's as far as it goes... but the strikes called below the knees are crazy. Players need to learn the strike zone to become disciplined hitters... but when they have to swing at garbage such as four balls out or just above the shoe laces it does nothing to imrpove him (or the pitcher) as a ball player. Pitches at the neck should not be strikes either but those at the belly button definately should be. I've heard countless umps say a pitch at the belly button is "high".... or a drop ball that hits the catchers mitt as "high".... it'd had to fall out of the sky for it not to have come thru the strike zone!
Generally any pitch that the catcher has to reach outside of his knees (in or out) should be a ball (unless he's set up on the oppoiste side and has to reach across)... and any ball he has to catch below his knees should be a ball. I don't think too many coaches would argue with an ump if he stuck to those gudelines.
When strike zones are too big is takes the fun out of it for the players - and pitcher don't learn to throw strikes.
If LL wants to expand the strike zone they should expand the plate so players, and umps, don't have to guess what a strike is.
I do wish more home plate umps would set up in the slot properly...
