I have notice a dozen missed base while runners are running the bases. Yet not one coach has appealed. This does not include tag ups coaches notice those.
Am I the only one calling leaving early, and why?

I have seen a couple missed bases but at the time we were so far up I didn't make an issue of it. I have probably missed some too.
I know we have had a few kids miss bases and you're right they haven't been appealed.
I'm glad you are calling the kids leaving too early because come all stars folks are going to pay for being negligent.

Oh, and the why part, I'd say that lack of experience and poor quality are probably the culprits.

The way little league is going, you won't need bases. it will be tee-ball for twelve year olds. We don't need to keep score, because declaring a loser which hurt little john's psyche.

No it'll be, "Little johnny you just made three good swings against Nick Voumard so now you get to hit one off a tee."

It is LL who cares if they miss a bag or leave early this is a gentleman's game it is not to call little Johnny out because his little foot was short of the bag. Besides most of the games I watched this year the umpires are not even looking at the runner rounding the bases and ususally what ever the fans yell out that is the call that will be made. Since we are talking about umpires I have seen alot of guys strike zones this year that belong in tee ball. I have been through alot of NCAA clinics and alot of high school clinics and beleive me alot of our guys need an extremely lot of work. I have seen so many strikes called on the shoe top and shoulder high this year than ever. Why is it so hard to understand that if the catcher sits the target at the knees and he has to roll his glove over to catch the ball that it is low not a strike. 2 balls outside now that is a real joke, what are we teaching the kids, swing at pitches that with most kids using 30 inch bats will never get to. I could go on and on about things I have heard about and seen this year. The funniest of all is the umpire that has to been seen or heard whenever he is umpiring and not letting the kids play the game. Hey keep our heads up LL tee ball is coming and I am sure they will need some good umpires. LOL, Just joking guys hats off to these people who volunteer to do these games and then has to take the crap they do from some loud mouth parents in the stand that think they can see better from the stands. The umpire that throws a mom out of the game for checking on her kid after getting hit with a line drive, now that is really showing who is in charge.

Ha - You must be referring the the Burch crew. They have unresolved issues that require them to throw someone out of every game. The two leagues need to get that resolved in a hurry.

The biggest reason is for me is I'm generally looking at my defense rather than the runner so I don't see it...

Tony that's funny.
Here is my story..... I was in Wisconsin visiting my parents and we went to a local baseball game. (They dont have travel ball and this was the only league!) They played by grades so we were at the 5th grade game. These kids just finished fifth grade and were going to sixth, so it was like 12u. The teams played COACH PITCH. Coach pitch. 12 year olds. It was the only type of baseball around in this town or any nearby town. It was a joke. No Lie.
T ball may not be that far off really from what I saw.........

Leaving early is LL and there is alot to be said against that. I would like to see leading off. Even though a lot of pitchers can handle it I imagine there may be more balks than walks how is that for little john's psyche.
As for missing the base that is in all of baseball, I was always taught that it was my job as a player to note if my bag was touched. Now with three adults in the dugout how many coaches need to watch the ball?
Note to TM: 2004 Orange county association of HS umpires (largest in the state) and this year at the Sacramento clinics for the Sac-Joaquin Section of HS umpire taught 1 ball in 2 balls out.

When a runner leaves early, it should be the base coach's fault. Being that he is there to teach the runner how and when to leave on a fly ball. And when running through the bag. The kids are kids. They are what they are taught.

I went to a couple of clinics this year myself and in no shape form or fashion did they ask for 1 ball in and 2 out. If they try to implement this in high school they may want to start having umpire escorts for after the game. 2 balls outside in high school is a joke if they did tell you that I am glad not to be a part of that organization. By the way this is 2007 not 2004 and I have alot of friends that do high school ball matter of fact one of them did the Turlock game yesterday.
We talked afterward and it is funny the strike zone did come up and calling breaking pitches. I told him about the 2 balls outside that umpires were calling these days and he stated in their clinic they were told not to call the Greg Maddox pitch a strike, 2 balls off the plate. By the way are you doing high school ball this year if so I have not seen you around and if your calling high school pitches 2 balls outside maybe that is why we have not seen you doing high school games. LOL
Jerry come on giving high school kids 2 balls outside that is totally insane. If you seen the kids throwing yesterday for Buhach Colony and Turlock, that game would never have ended if you gave them 2 balls outside because they would have both thrown perfect games and it would still be going. So now your telling me we are treating 10,11 and 12 year olds like high school kids calling 2 balls outside. When will people get a clue and let the play of the kids decide the game instead of the umpires.

I don’t make the rules or decide the interpretation by HS or LL. Leaving early, throat guard, mercy rule, pitch count, etc. (LL) Dead ball balk, over sliding second, diving over a fielder, etc (HS)
Umpires do not always agree with the rule but are charged to enforce them.
The reason for mentioning 2004 is has been taught in every LL and HS clinic than I have been to since then. (A minimum of 1 of each every year) If there is a clinic for (HS/LL) that is not teaching this I would appreciate the name so I may attend and get another point of view other than LL or CIF. The Southern Section of Sac-Joaquin CIF has not offer a clinic in the last 3 years they have recommended the Northern Section’s clinic which only 3 SS umpire attended.
I was at the Turlock/Buhach game and Mike and Bruce are much respected umps.
