Lance I believe on place we need to look is "The way we call it" It might be in there I will try to get a copy from Paul or if you still have one from last year. I know we will have the same issue with at least one player on the AE

Thanks,
It really sounds simple....
Does brother's rights take effect if one brother is exiting and the other is entering the majors?

Lance ~
I wasn't referring to your situation above. I wanted to clarify that at the beginning of the post.
You wouldn't have brother rights since Adrian age out and is no longer on the team. As far as playing with his friends, Tyler isn't on the Phillies yet either.
I don't know if the decision to retract the number of teams in American has been finalized. How can anyone say where Tyler will be playing? I can tell you the kind of pre-draft arrangements that are being made could get the league in trouble. It just the kind of thing the LL rules were designed to prevent.
Lance - I like you a lot and have posted previously about how much you've done for baseball in Turlock but I think your wrong on this one. If I were President I would refund your money.
I'm sorry man but I believe the only thing that guarantees fairness is fidelity to the draft rules established by LL.

What about Brother's rights. Adrian was a Philly last year. Michael didn't play with the Phillies last year. I coached with the Phillies. Now that Michael wants to play this year wouldn't brother's rights be in effect. Adrian is now 13 and out of the league but since our family was a part of the Philly team why would we not be able to be a part of it again this year? Espicially since I coached the players last year and hope to coach them again this year. I will still coach as best I can with no kid on the team and 4 kids at home. brothers right are out of the question because he wouldNOT have a brother CURRENTLY on the team if you WERE the manager and still ARE the manager then you would have Managers Rights. if you were a coach then it will be tricky depending if you have met the criteria spoken about earlier in this post. if your son truly is average you can always try and do a "gentlemens agreement" with the other managers and try and draft him in the 4th round which shouldnt be a problem. if he is better than you say, i doubt other managers will "agree" to not draft him and might snatch him up to trade him to the team you wsant him on for another top pick

Chris,
Thank you. Not the ruling I was looking for but as long as it's fair for all then we got to accept it. L Boullion

Lance ~
Its not a ruling and I probably should have PM'd you. I really do value our friendship and didn't want to be unsupportive. I also know that teams like to attend your tournaments because they know that you're going to live by the rules. That's why I think you've been so successful.
Anyway, it was my honest opinion and I hope we're still cool.

Chris,
I don't think the rules should be broken either. Glad to get a ruling on it though from someone neutral. Doesn't really matter, it's a small issue and there's much more important stuff. As long as it's fair and the rules are upheld for everyone.

Here's what the operating manual states on page 64:
New coaches can not be appointed by the Board until after the draft to avoid "red shirting" players...
A returning coach, thru the manager, may exercise an option in writing to the Player Agent provided:
A. The coach has served as a manager or coach in the league (at any level) for the past two years AND, B. The coach is returning to the same Major League as last year team.
Both conditions (A and B) must be met.
This does not apply to assistant coaches... Just those listed as coaches and submitted to Williamsport the previous year.

I know we will have the same issue with at least one player on the AE The operating manual, in this case, over rides The Way We'll Call It. Draft rules can't be amended or altered... About the only variance LL allows local leagues in regards to the draft is whether to draft 9s or not. Coaches and brothers rights can't be changes at teh local level.

To Lance and to all. Craig got it right. You have to have coached or managed in the league for at least one year, and then coached a second year with the team that you wish to option your child to. They are called options now. In the case of Lance, If you coached or managed during the 2005 regular season at any level (not fall ball) and it was submitted on a roster to Williamsport and if you were a rostered coach with the Phillies last year during the regular season, and you are approved to return back with the Phillies this year, the manager of the Phillies team can option to take your son as a coaches option. Depending on his age it will determine what round he will go in. But if your name was not on the roster submitted to Williamsport, and you were one of the suppporting coaching staff, then that does not count. On page 65 of the 2007 Operarting Manual, which all board members should either have purchased for them or they should buy (3 bucks), # 4 SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF COACHES a NEW coach shall not be appointed nor approved until after the draft to avoid "Red Shirting" of players throught selective coaching appointments. A returning coach, through the manager, may exercise an option in writing to the Player Agent provided: (A) The coach has served as a manager or coach in the league (at any level for the past two years) AND, (B) The coach is returning to the same Major League Team as last year. IMPORTANT: In order for a Manager to exercise this option, the coach must qualify under BOTH conditions above. This is taken out of page 65 of the 2007 Operating Manual for Little League.

Lance, I hope Michael decides to play. You never know, he still may end up a Philly. Maybe he'll stick around until round 2, maybe someone will work a trade. Ya never know. If he quits there's no chance he'll be a Philly. One of the things about Little League that's great for kids is the chance to meet new people and make new friends. If he sticks it out and gets drafted by another team he might become good friends with his new teammates. He might also be fun for him to play against Tyler. There's no reason it still can't be a great experience. No matter what team he gets on chances are he'll get to know kids he'll see down the road in high school so it will make that transition even easier.
Just random thoughts from a shallow mind...
