Just curious if the respective boards have made decisiona bout minors. I think last year only 8 & above could play "kid pitch" in minors and 7 year olds had to play machine pitch. What does N/Ns do? I think if a kid has the talent he should be in kid pitch. We used to do evaluations on the A/AE side to determne this, not sure if they still do?
Does anyone know if the minor teams will be assigned players or if there will be a draft? Will evaluations be done ths year?
How many games will be played in minors? Machine pitch?

They should bring back the minor league draft. At least it gives the coach a chance to get a few kids he may already know or want. It adds to the excitement and the evaluations are more serious than having a lady from the snack bar standing out there who may not always know what to look for. They pay the same amount of money that the majors pay so they should at least be given some of the same perks of the older kids.JMO which=squat!

As far as I know we are going to do the same as last year. In my opinion it work out really well for the kids and the coaches 7-8yr old are going to do machine pitch undrafted 9-12 yr olds are in the minors and teams will be drawn like last after an evaluation

That's too bad that the 7 & 8 year olds that are ready can't go up. LL allows of rit, so shoould we. By not allowing them to go up it forces kids that are not ready for kid pitch to play it and that experience may ultimately destroy their taste for the game. A 10 year old that has never played before is better served playing machine pitch and a 7/8 year old that's been playing since the time he could walk is better served by playing in a league that is challenging to him...

Craig, If a player shows that he or she is ready to move up to the minors they will be allowed but by board approval only. last year we had a few 8yr olds move up and that worked out good for both the boys and the league

I thought that the rule rather then the exceptions is what you was asking on your 1st post. The league should be flexable enough to give each kid his or her own needs if needed.

Finally a board member that thinks of the kids. Good job Randy, keep up the good work. Don't worry about Craig, he just likes to stir the pot.LOL

Never smoked the green stuff, not my bag...
That's good news Randy b/c I think there are a few kids every year ready for minors.

My youngest son was an 8 last year and got to play Minors and pitch. Had he been forced to play in Machine Pitch, we would have went elsewhere to play.
I left Ceres Youth Baseball for him becuase 7-8 year olds only play Coach Pitch there. Coach pitch is worse then machine pitch.

My youngest son just turned 7 and we are on the National side. I was going to put him in the Turlock city coach pitch. What are some other options since he can't play LL?

Your options are limited. I'm sure Crash has the right answer for you. There are 7 year olds out there that are considered a safety risk to the other kids at that age, even though they use a softer ball. You could move to the american side but that isn't usually practical. Maybe the national side could evaluate the younger kids if the parents choose to appeal the board and to determine if the kid is ready to move up.

I like the evaluation option. So I guess my next question would be for Chris- Is it possible for my 7 year old to be evaluated and play in the minors next year?
