Nope your right it would be very tough. But wouldn't it be interesting to see a 17 game schedule with all Turlock Teams playing each other one time?! Pitching would be a real headache but it would be interesting. BTW, Mark ur like a savant with your memory for stats and records. I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning

as long as it is a balanced schedule where every1 plays each other the same amount of times that would be awesome. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- lol
i have stats in Scorebooks and backed up on Floppy Disks for all games that i have either coached or managed and all games that my brother has played in.
back in LL i even used to go to the park and score the games of our opponants for the following week so i could get some info on who was capably of doing what

I would like to be the first to say it is very exciting to see Little League starting and everybody so gung ho but if you have time today stop and offer up a prayer for the Clapper family Greg has donated alot of his time to the youth in this community and has asked for nothing in return but now he is in need of alot of prayers for him and his family. Greg just to let you know we had our differences but the Murphy family is praying for your recovery.

First of all the scheduling issue is always debatable and I am as happy to see the season get going regardless of who plays who. Little League is about teaching the youngsters the values of the great game of baseball and this can be done if you win or lose. I myself am not even a fan of the inter-league play in the majors let alone in Little League...just go out and have fun!!!!!
Second topic is about Greg Clapper. I have never really known Greg but do know he has donated ALOT of his time to the community and the kids over the years. It is tragic to hear the news of his condition and by all means lets all pray for his recovery and his families well being through this time in need.

Guys--My intent w/regards to the American Play was only to envision a year in which our ballplayers were given the opportunity to play against their friends from across town. Its great to watch these kids form lasting friendships from sports as well as championships.
Anyone who would like to know more in regards to Greggs condition, feel free to call me 595-7783. I have been in touch w/family. Gregg has given countless hours to this sport we love called baseball, lets all take just a few moments and offer our thoughts and prayers for Greggs recovery and for the Clapper family.

Morning Mr V....no blood no foul my friend....I myself would like to see the teams switch fields half way through the season as we did as kids in LL. I understand you point very much and as Mark stated if it could be done fairly then I think it would work but sceduling is tough enough as it is. I will be calling you for info in regards to Gregg's condition. Look forward to seeing you and watching Rolen's this year as well. He should tear it up after all the travel ball pitching and at bats he had this past season..see you out there soon my friend.

Rodney thanks for the update on Gregg and lets keep throwing those little prayers up for him. I as last years American and American East league president would like nothing more than to see our leagues combine and play each other I tried last year but everybody was worried about winning their league and not getting a fair deal as far as what teams they play. Why can we not play the games and they count on your record but as far as winning the league championship only use your actual league record to decide the championship. That way you can not get so called screwed from winning your league if you play one of the dominant teams from the National or American side but believe me the kids love these little rivals amongst their friends and the kids give you that 110% just so they can say to their buddies we beat you and still walk away as friends. I know it does not mean much but that is just my opinion as far as sitting in both seats as a board member and as a manager.

I think it'd be easier to get a transvestite elected president... or at least governor of Cali! But...
I think it would be great to play all the teams in town at least once, tho it might seem the Amer side would have an unfair advantage b/c we do not draft 9s and the National side does. I do think it would bridge a gap and break down barriers for both parents and kids. There are a lot of misperceptions, caused by the unknown, even in Turlock. I laugh at some of the misperceptions I hear and most of it is caused because folks just don't know each other. I think many kids have grown up and live as adults believing these misperceptions about "the other side of town." This might seem like pretty heady stuff to some but the awesome thing about sports is that it has always broken down barriers (and Hollywood makes big bucks off the stories). If we were intuitive enough we'd embrace it, and more importantly implement it - even in our Podunk town. It could be a great thing... then again it requires that four letter word too few are willing to do W - O - R - K. It's just so easy to keep the status quo. Hey, I managed to be both optimistic and pessimistic all at once. Maybe Tao was right! One thing's for sure, Mickey Rivers was!

Ha Tao - Isn't it rather ironic that the only reason we're discussing inter-league is as a result of the friendships created during travel ball? We're already doing it at the Senior Level aren't we? If we were to play each team in town once and the teams in our own league twice we'd still have a 21 game schedule in National. It would be a hoot and give kids a chance to play on both dirt & grass infields. It might even boost the dinger totals in American & AE. As for the nine year old issue we usually only draft 1 or 2 nine year olds each year. I actually drafted a nine this year and he's a good little ball player. Nevertheless, National wins its share of City Championships despite the possible nine year old handicap. I forget who won last year? I believe National went 3 for 4. Tony had to screw up our sweep

Yep, National has always done well in City Championships, etc but the 9s could factor in over the long haul of an inter-league schedule even though there are some very talented 9s out there... and I'd imagine eventually someone would raise the question about all the leagues being on the same page. I think inter-league is a great idea though, the thought of it actually kinda get me excited - and not much in Little League does (only because many of their rules squash great ideas like this one). I do think our Turlock Little Leagues need to pump a round of adrenaline into the leagues before we lose most of our better players to travel ball full-time and the program goes the way of the Girls slow pitch program run by the City (which has lost most of their better players to travel ball). A few things that might help are examining the boundaries and cutting out areas that increase our population but that we don't draw many kids from (Delhi, Hilmar, Keyes, Hughson, etc). It would be great if we could assemble one all star team from both sides and cutting down our numbers in each league may allow us to drop down to 3 or maybe even 2 leagues... giving our all stars a better chance of advancing. I can't speak for Nat'l but we need to do a better job of recruiting new players - with all the growth why are our numbers going down??? Relying solely only fliers sent home with students and PSAs in the papers to publicize the program isn't enough. Dropping of fliers at all the new houses may have helped. A joint (paid) ad with Nat'l in the Modesto Bee makes sense. Advertising sign-ups each year should just be factored into the budget. I'm not ripping the current board - I've said this for four years. We keep doing the same ol thing and get the same old results and then wonder why... Well, we need to try a new approach I need to take Mickey River's advice But this year it is what it is and it's almost time for those two words I love to hear.... Play Ball!

Good Point Craig.............Better job of recruiting for LL ;D.... If we can get a dialog going between the leagues ( Nat-Amr ) it would be start.
Have a good week end of Baseball everyone !!
