Can't forget that LL never denies any child a chance to play regardless of the ability to pay. I'm happy to pay a little extra to help out.

I think the boards are doing good job with the money they have. We've both been board members and I think TNLL has always been good stewards of the money. They have healthy reserves right now but that's how it should be. I'd like to see a years operating expenses in the bank (I think they are getting close) and then have the league focus on all the capital improvements we need to make. i agree. i remember the first year i was helping out there was near nothing in the bank, but under your leadership there was a healthy amount 2 years later. what would be great is if some big fan of youth baseball happened to donate a couple million bucks to the program similar to what happened in Clovis (Riverpark) and Modesto (Bel Passi)

Thanks Mark.
I'm giggling because we had a lot of crap to deal with back then. In retrospect you did a great job as VP and really looked out for NS. Someone had to and you and Lucy stepped up. I wouldn't want to go through that again.
I do think we could take it all in stride now and it might be a little easier.

To hell with inter-league play, let's combine the leagues again and let Chris be President. I like the sound of little league having money in the bank. Maybe my grandchildren can enjoy playing on fields like Manteca's right here in Turlock by then. Chris, I just put you in charge. You can do it.

That is incredible. But again the average household salary is over 100,000. But still, you could end up paying $500.00 for little league, if you had more than one kid that could by $1000.00

Hey All, back from Vegas and ready to answer some of the questions brought up.
TNLL has already set it fees for this season. It is the same as last year. $85.00 for ages 8 to 12, and if they sign up at regular registration with the $10.00 discount it would be only $75.00. The older players are $110.00 with the $10.00 discount for signing up at registration making it $100.00. This was decided at the first meeting of the year so that advertisement and forms and stuff could start getting ready. This fee includes full uniform to use, and the players gets to keep their shirt and hat, they receive a full package of pictures, ( a 3.5 x 5" individual, 4 jumbo wallets, a photo button, and a team picture", this fee also covers the 12 to 22 games (depending on which level) plays, along with a secondary insurance, If a player and/or team is fortunate to go into post-season play, that is also paid for.
It has been mine and Tony's experience that for every $5.00 raise in the fee, you lose at least a team worth of players. Yes the money that we play to LL International and District 10 does seem like a lot, but these fees goes towards insurance, the post season play, and the right to be affiliated with the program. Little League ( to the best of my knowledge) is the only program with a true world series, even more so then then the pros. The other post season play mention, may be progressive tourneys, but how far do they progress to.
Most importantly, LL should be affordable to everyone. Travel Ball is great for those kids that have parents who 1) can afford the cost and 2) is willing to afford the cost. We all have had those players whose parents can't even be bothered to get them to games, never mind do travel ball with them. I also think that we can get a very narrow point of view on this board, since the ones writing in are people who are very involved with a youth baseball, and are willing and able to have their kids in travel ball, and can afford to pay almost a hundred dollars for their kid to play. I know for a fact, that if we did not have a payment plan, we would have a good number of kids that did not play, or we would be out hunting for donations to cover their cost since a parent can say I want my kid to play but I am not paying. We have a very fine line to walk of we don't want to allow a kid to play that did not pay. The rule books discuss having a parent work off the fee and things like that. They don't really tell us that we can tell them that they have to pay to play.
When comparing to other towns there are things we do not know that can impact their fees. We can do some comparison backyard. Los Banos and Madera has had very low fees. I think they still do, but I am not positive so I will speak of that I am sure of. The reason why the fee was so low, was because their city actually helped with their costs. They did not have to pay for lights, or preps, and the city actually donated money to them. This is in comparison to our fee, which has to accommodate the fee for preps at Pedretti, the lights used at Pedretti, and Soderquist. We also have to pay a fee to the City of Turlock, to be affiliated with them. We pay a fee per player of 2 or 3 bucks to just be affiliated with them, and then for all players who play at Pedretti we pay an additional 2 or 3 bucks. It totals 5 bucks for Pedretti players. We also have to pay more for those players who are not in the Turlock City Limits. This is in our own town. Our city does not help support us.
There are a lot of costs that we have that would surprise people, and make them wonder why our city fathers are charging this. After all we supply a service to the city by having a program that they do not have to provide for the youth of Turlock.
I have to go to work right now, but when I come back, Tony and I will address more of the questions that have been brought up, and let you know what and why we have to charge the way we do.

Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth has a true World Series. i remember the year my brother Sergio P. and Willie G. were 12 we played in a AS tournament in Atwater sponsored by Atwater Youth Baseball and we played a team out of Visalia that was very, very good. they beat us 3-1 but then to my surprise i saw them on TV (Fox Sports Net) almost 2 months later playing against Korea in the Cal Ripken division of Bube Ruth Baseball in Aberdine Maryland.
Bel Passi Bube Ruth 14U won a World Series title also.
Little League is the most FAMOUS.
what melody is saying about high prices is right, especially for Senior and Juniors, and here is why.
Why would Kids/Parents want to pay $100 for 12 games plus 4 AS Games (if they make AS) when they can play HS Legion Ball for their High School against better competition, chance to impress Varsity Coaching Staff, and play in 25 games? and whats even better is Turlock HS Legion charges $60

I agree Mark, I remember when I was at THS we all looked forward to Legion Ball. We had the chance my junior year to go to Yountville for the State Final. Those were some great road trips and played against some very good players. We were little old Turlock playing against redshirts from UCLA and USC. All but two of the teams in the State Final were from So. Cal with the exception of us and a team from the Bay Area. It was a great experience and the competition was leaps and bounds better then any LL for that age group.

Mel Can you let me know what fees the city charge us? We have a kid on our football team whose father just won a seat on the city council and he is very sports friendly for the kids.
