The Devil's advocate is here. Because there are parents that work with their kids and try and make them better, but in the coaches head there are 6 kids who are gonna play the whole game and the other 6 are not gonna crack the big 6 no matter what they do. Granted I agree with Coop and Crash, but lets get real, if a coach has the top 6, he is gonna ride them for the whole season. Daddy ball comes into play, whether or not you coached that kid in Travel ball, comes into play. There are some things that kids cannot over come. Their coaches feel that they are marginal players and they will remain marginal player in their eyes.
I know my sons are not gonna be major leaguers, and I hope they make their high school team. All I ask is that the coach gives them their shot. Because there are a lot of kids out there that are practicing and trying to get better, but sometimes they are invisible.
My older son is having some issues and hopefully I have steered him the right direction to become more aggressive and stake his claim and not take any shit from the older players. Hopefully the coaches will take notice.
As a parent, you want your child to succeed, you want him to want to have a fair chance and a equal opportunity. I have always told my kids, listen to your coaches, play hard, and make plays. Because, I do agree that you have to produce to play. Nobody should be given a free ride and that all of it matters, attitude, talent, coachibility, willingness to work, and on and on.

I don't necessarily agree. There is and ebb and flow to a season and kids get hot and cold. We've had changes in our top six this year. Not our top four but our top six.
That remains the difficult delema for me and the other coaches. The truth is we're going to play the kids that WE feel will give us the best chance of winning. We're going to play them in the positions in which they can best help the team.
The real rub comes when the coaches feel one way and the parent(s) feel a different way. In terms of daddy ball unless I'm completely blind in the case of the Giants the coaches kids belong in the top six and the top four. It's just very difficult when you have 5 12s - 6 11s and a 10 year old.

There's never a fixed top six in my mind... It changes all the time.

I agree with Chris' top 4 including his son. Although he's had his struggles at the plate and could have been pulled from a game or two, he's consistently one of the best on the Giants team and deserves the 6 inning game. There is 1 Giant that plays the 6 innings that could certainly share time but again, the coaches decision. I'm glad some games for the 2 inning 1 at bat rule! I'm not afraid to admit I've done my share of the b****ing but I always realize the importance of the real game of life and the lessons my son learns each game. I'm not a kiss arse but I appreciate the Giants coaching staff even if sometimes I don't agree as a parent Was that kiss arse enough Greenie?

LOL - I don't even know how to respond. Tell me, if I were to pull Jens for a game or two who would you like me to replace him with the kid hitting .000 or .182 or .176 or .91 or .143 or .154? I got an idea! Why don't I just draw names out of a hat and fill out the lineup?
Everyone's struggling at the plate right now Dawn but that'll will change or the lineup will change. I think I just threw up in my mouth.

"In terms of daddy ball unless I'm completely blind in the case of the Giants the coaches kids belong in the top six and the top four" I was actually agreeing with your comment Chris and had no intention of making you throw up or feel like you needed to pull names out of a hat for a lineup. I don't feel it's necessary to change the top 4 of our line up. Jenson has come through in several games and it would have sucked if he wasn't in the #4 spot. I apologize if my comment was taken as anything but supportive, it was not meant any other way and certainly not an attack on you or Jenson. I actually was thinking of one game we won 11-1 and I guess it wouldn't have hurt to sub a kid in that only gets 1 at bat per game for someone who gets 3-4 every game. Not just Jenson but any of the six 6-inning players that game. Again, my apologies and I would delete that post but Greenie hates when people do that. I've got to stop posting replies, it seems to get me in trouble...

I'm more than sorry Dawn. I guess I'm a little sensitive these day and your right I should have pulled him in the 11-1 game. We need to get more kids in the game and more pitchers on the mound whenever the opportunity arises.

I guess I am going to have to disect this for you paragraph by paragraph. By the way, you started this ;D ;D "I don't necessarily agree. There is and ebb and flow to a season and kids get hot and cold. We've had changes in our top six this year. Not our top four but our top six." LIke I have said before opinions and comments are like a-holes everybody has them Right Greenie. ;D I agree with your ebb and flow, lets face it, execept a couple of players it has been all flow for us. I bet after the first player, there isn't anybody hitting over .230. "That remains the difficult delema for me and the other coaches. The truth is we're going to play the kids that WE feel will give us the best chance of winning. We're going to play them in the positions in which they can best help the team. " I agree with that statement. All I was saying was that in my situation, my son is struggling right now and I know if he pulls his head out of his butt, he will be fine. but being the youngest on the team the last two years sometimes he gets a little tentative. and when he gets tentative he loses his aggressiveness. That is what I meant by my statement about being more aggressive and not take shit. Because, if you think that I think my kid should be playing six innings right now, no way, there are some flaws that he needs to work on. Believe me that he WILL work on those and become a better player, but more importantly, he will work hard and learn that hard works pays off. And, if he does improve and get to where he needs to be in the coaches eye, then I am sure he will be getting time. Right?!, just like any other kid who steps up and starts producing. We have to keep the ebb and flow. "The real rub comes when the coaches feel one way and the parent(s) feel a different way. In terms of daddy ball unless I'm completely blind in the case of the Giants the coaches kids belong in the top six and the top four. It's just very difficult when you have 5 12s - 6 11s and a 10 year old. " The daddy ball comment was a general comment because all cases all different. To be honest, most cases of the daddy ball players are the better player. Either because their dad push them harder, or the kids want to play harder for their dads. Plus, you can't tell me that when you were a parent and you didn't like what was happenning you didn't Hottie. It is a parents nature to protect there child from the evil Managers and Coaches. "Tell me, if I were to pull Jens for a game or two who would you like me to replace him with the kid hitting .000 or .182 or .176 or .91 or .143 or .154? I got an idea! Why don't I just draw names out of a hat and fill out the lineup?" You are getting sensitive. ;D I maybe dumb, but I am not stupid, but the way we are hitting, you probably should draw out of a hat. ;D ;D . However, the answer to that question is you put in my kid in. ;D ;D Now that we got that said, buy me a beer and some wings and then we can BS on how to beat the Dodgers and the Cubs. ;D ;D

I'm hemmed up with budget stuff right now but I'll have a lot to say later. For now you should know that Jens really likes your oldest. He actually spent a lot of time drawing a picture of Jens which I thought was cool. With my son's mouth and demeanor at times he needs all the BIG friends he can get
