Ok guys and gals Interleague is almost over until we hit the city tourney, so the questions are ? And forget about the win/loss records... 1- How did we do ? 2- How can we improve ? 3- Did the kids have fun with it ? if yes why and if not why ? 4- Should we continue with it next year ?

I don't have a kid in the majors but I had a great time watching. It was exciting to see teams for the other side. Thanks and job well done to all those who made it happen.

1) Outstanding job Randy. Everyone I have spoke to seems to be really enjoying the season.
2) Improvements - to try and balance out equal time with the fields, home vs visitors, game times 530pm and 730pm with the program that you bought, seems to be a lot easier for others who are not working on the schedule. Not knowing that there are flaws in the system. Great Job. I have not heard any complaints except for when two teams from the A/AE or N/NS were playing at the opposite fields. If the balance for each team to play at each field is going to work then this can not be helped.
3) I believe the players are having a great time. Watching them talk with each other at the plate or on the bases, shows a lot of respect and friendship for each other. Plus, it is educational for them, preparing them for All Stars and High School ball when they have to travel and play at different sites. Teaching them what it is like to have home field advantage and how to appreciate their own field. After all isn't that what we are here for is to prepare them for the next level and have fun?
4) Unless someone can show me a disadvantage of playing inter-league, this has been one of the better moves and improvements we have done for our programs. After all, most of these players (those who continue to play this sport or others) will be heading to our two High Schools here in town. Those who will excel in their sport or are able to take their game to the next level will once again be playing either, with each other or against each other.
Great job to all the coaches, their teams and most of all, ALL THE PARENTS who made this workable.

Randy:
I thought it was great. There were some glitches, some back to back games, and the fields, but all in all I thought it was great. The ltl scrapper liked it as well.
I think the model that you had this year, should work great for future years. I appreciate what you and many others have done.

WOW Not as many questions and Awnser that I thought there might be......Looks like it will be a go for next year. I know next year we are going to get the same kind of balls for both leagues. thats been a pain. And 10 run after 4 for both sides or after 5 need to pick one

I think everything about it has been great. It would be a huge step backward to discontinue it.
One comment regarding the run rule. This is a recreation/developmental league. I think we should play the full time limit unless the team that is down chooses to stop. In some 10 run games the losing team's players only gets one AB each. For both teams continuing to play gives kids more field time. For the winning team it's a chance to get his subs more playing time and younger kids some pitching experience. If no one is trying to run up the score it can still be FUN for all involved. Maybe it could be a 15 run rule (where's the magic in 10???). My first three years of playing baseball was on terrible teams and I NEVER wanted to quit playing. I just think we're missing out on valuable playing time...

1- How did we do ? I think the interleague play was great for everyone. I grew up playing in TLL and back then we played 10 games at Julien and 10 games at Soderquist. It was a thrill to go across town to your friends park and put a whuppin on em. For all those involved of getting interleague going congrats to a huge success.
2- How can we improve ? Scheduling is always going to be the toughest aspect of play. Luck of the draw can sometimes mean back to back to back games against some of the toughest teams in TLL. It has been a fun year facing new teams and players. Alot of kids are friends that until this year never got to play against one another.
3- Did the kids have fun with it ? if yes why and if not why ? I can only speak for my son and the players I know that have made comment about interleague play. YES!!!! They love playing against their buddies from the other leagues. Bragging rights can go a long way at school. Gman loved it!!
4- Should we continue with it next year ? Of course. Why would anyone not want to? It has made it a lot of fun. It got old playing the same teams 3 times a year. It has made for some great games this Little League season and will continue to be fun for many years to come. Great job to all the board members of both leagues for getting it done. Thanx to all the parents for driving a little further to some games. Last I want to thank all the players for making it a season we will all remember.
p.s. I agree with Crash about the 10 run rule. It is not much fun for the kid who bats 1 or 2 times in half their games. Let em play and get some at bats or have a chance to play another posistion instead of right field. With pitch count and scheduing one never knows what can happen in those last 2 innings.

It looks like next year we will addressing the 10 run rule ? I personnally feels its a good rule however I have heard many complaints about it so I have no problem with change. I will need to check the Green Bible (LOL)

Randy ~
I love interleague, the kids love interleague and for all the concern before we started I think its been a big success. Gosh, we even see A/AE and N/NS folks at Julien and Soderquist when they don't even have games.
Interleague has made the town a little smaller and kids who go to school together actually get to square off on the field without arbitrary boundaries. Overall, Its been a wonderful experience.
I don't like the 10 run rule for the reasons others have outlined above.

I don't like the 10 run rule for the reasons others have outlined above. crash pretty much summed up my feelings about the 10 run rule. the only bad thing about NOT having it is that you will always have some yahoo running up scores and not putting subs in early and leaving them for the sole purpose of running it up

Mark do you actually think someone would do that in little league. LOL I mean it is only LL what does it matter how many runs you score. I thought LL was a gentleman's game and it was all about the kids so I really do not see that happening. LOL

I hear the sarcasm and I know that it would happen from time-to-time but we'd give them so much shit here that it wouldn't happen again!

Talking with coaches and friends what about a 15 after 4 and 10 after 5 that might be a compromise(sp)

I think the National side should always be home and away at Julien. ( and flip it for the American side.) I know we were visitors on our field and had wait around for the american to clean up.
An on-line pitch count to keep everyone up on who threw what. As a score keeper we had no where to log the pitches, other than our own books.
I agree with the 10 run rule needs tweeking. As a National parent we had games where a kid had played one inning, one at bat. That was hard to explain to a kid. ( or an angry parent)

As I am still new to LL Majors (this is our second year), I think interleague has been a big success. My son has had lots of fun seeing schoolmates and football friends on the opposing teams, something he didn't see last year. Call me naive or uneducated in baseball, but I like the 10 run rule. If a struggling team is playing one of the many great teams that are out there, why continue if they are getting blown out? Last year, without the 10 run rule, we lost 30-2. Tell me how the kids enjoyed that? Do you think they enjoyed being the laughing stock of the league? Kids are vicious sometimes and if you combine that with an overzealous coach (yes, they exist) I think not having a run limit is more detrimental to the kids than having one. There is a difference between having one bad inning versus four bad innings. That is my point. Please be kind with your rebuttals. I am just a mother! LOL
