How many of the managers and coaches were at the breakfast meeting to pick the brackets? Maybe your complaints would have been heard if you were there..... NO breakfast meeting this year...this is a "LISTEN UP and not the place to question decisions

Greenie: Remember that Madera team spanked us 12-0, but then lost the next two.

I'm not willing to make any bets. We'll do the best we can and that's all you can do. I just hope we play well and have some fun.

Jeff, owner of West Coast Sporting Goods (the biggest baseball store in Nor Cal) told me that 6 leagues are folding in Hayward and surrounding areas for LL. He gets baseball guys in and out all day everyday and knows what's going on.
Then I heard that the league from Williamsport, where the LL WS is, will not be sanctioned little league next year..... That is kind of a huge problem.
Does any one know if there is any truth to that rumor.

Little League, I hate to say, is a dinosaur. They thought they were the Fat Cat and ruled the roost... then along came Cal Ripken. His league offers real baseball, which... DUH... kids love. He's been proactive in it's marketing and development. BIG BONUS. It is a nice complement to travel ball. Kids can play real baseball in their city league then move on to travel ball when it's over. I like LL, but my bigger commitment is to a city program for our kids. LL, Cal Ripken, Pony... Honestly, I could care less. But we need to have a city program for our kids b/c it's good for us (all).
I understand why cities are abandoning LL. It's archaic, carries a lot of red tape, and is slow to change. And the changes they are making lean even more heavily toward rec ball and away from competitive play. Perhaps that's a good thing. There is a need for a program that teaches kids "the game" at a less intense, competitive level. Baseball, a part of America's fabric, needs to be taught at all levels to preserve its legacy. Maybe this is what they want their niche to be.
My youngest son only has one more year - but I want to try to preserve LL in Turlock... And I think the changes we've discussed will help do so. But at the same time I'm frustrated by the direction LL International is going and understand why it's losing customers...
The cola industry felt pretty comfortable - then along came Snapple and turned the market on it's ear. But Pepsi and Coke adapted and survived. Let's see if LL can do the same...

DITTO CRASH!!
Building A comprehensive and united Baseball Program for the City of Turlock should be the goal. LL can fit in the overall mission...this is really in the hands of the local boards to manuever through the beuracratic red tape.
I personally do not see LL ever collapsing perhaps in 20 years taking a second place position to CR may occur. But, today it is still the largest baseball experience for kids in youth baseball. Remember we must be aware of policies and procedures passed down by LL International to understand what we in Turlock need to do to operate youth baseball for our culture.
Only real way to examine the best option. If that is something members want to do. Is to compare the core values of LL and CR and see if there is a real difference with the core values of what members would like to see. I think part of the problem is people come together to operate a LL without ever really addressing how they want youth baseball to exist in Turlock. If we address this first and it is frequently posted in our parks, flyers, etc. Then the rest is easy.

A LOT OF EXCITING GAMES TODAY, ALL OF THEM WERE CLOSE. I DIDN'T SEE ANY 1 DOMINATING TEAM OUT THERE. I MUST GIVE SOME CREDIT TO THE MADERA ALL STARS, AFTER THEIR GAME WITH THE NATIONAL ALL STARS THEY INVITED EVERYONE TO EAT WITH THEM. THIS WAS VERY CLASSY OF MADERA. THE KIDS ATE AND PLAYED A MEAN GAME OF TENNIS BASEBALL. IT WAS A NICE WAY TO GET TO KNOW THE OTHER TEAMS. LETS SEE WHAT TOMORROW HOLD FOR TURLOCK BASEBALL.

That was a great meal. A class bunch indeed. Too bad the 12's parents didn't rub of on the 10's parents from Madera. A few real loser's. I have never been thanked by an opposing team before for telling a few of them to shut the hell up .
