Chris~ I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I appreciate all that these guys have done. I'm just saying there's more to LL than the competition and if you want the competition than travel ball is where you go. The two "leagues" serve different purposes. My son plays baseball every season because he loves playing it, then in the fall he loves playing football. He's played 3 1/2 years of LL and won maybe 4 games and we are still at the first night of sign-ups because he can't wait to play.

Be careful Byrd, speaking the truth on the forum will only upset the liberals. They seem to have a little more influence than we do when it comes to youth sports. Good thing Grayson is 12, next years rule changes might include something about kids over six feet tall not being allowed to play. There's always travel ball but it doesn't have to be that way. Cal Ripken should get a second look.

TPR Baseball already had a good Fall League at Pedretti and plan to be even bigger this year. We do not want to take away from the Spring LL but actually help it grow by getting more kids out to play iin the fall. This will improve the talent level too for the majors L Boullion Are you going to let Mikey stack his team again? He has a streak to continue. Do you have a u7 division? I heard a rumor that the National side might allow 7's next year. I think it worked well last time they tried it.

Chili maybe you need to look at the other side before you start bad mouthing the competition level. Yes, you are right LL is suppose to be a gentleman's game where little Johnny can play the game no matter how good he is. If you do not teach kids to compete at all different levels then what are you teaching them for what life has ahead for them.
Not every kid will be handed everything life has to offer on a silver platter, some will have to fight for what they get out of life. That is why these people that bad mouth coaches for being to competitive should stop and realize what your kid is learning in life. It is ok to be competitive and if you or anyone else thinks LL should make it as easy as possible for kids to play majors then I am sorry to say it will only hurt the kids and the program. Is it going to be that easy when they try out for high school program whether it be football or baseball ?
Beleive me the coaches will not make it easy because they do want to win and because your child did not experience the competition in LL he quits because it is to hard. I think the parents need to grow up and realise any time you keep win or lose records there is going to be competition. The harder the kids work and more competitive they become the stronger they will be in life. That way when they do lose and mom or dad is not there to make it so easy for them it will not be so devastating to them. Competition teaches kids it is fun to be successful and it ok to lose also. It is not the end of the world if you do not win, and also it teaches them that where ever you go there will always be somebody as good as you are if not better.
So to me LL is making the league a laughing joke with the new changes. I think alot of you people that bad mouth travel ball and the people involved in it need to come out and see the talent difference and how much better it makes kids. I have seen the talent level in Turlock rise drastically in the last few years and alot of the reason why is travel ball and the kids that are dedicated and competitive.

LOL - Tony you're an fine example of a guy promoted through school because of his athletic ability. Either that or you missed the semester when the teacher instructed on the use of paragraphs. ;D
In any case, I agree with you. Dave's a good guy but he tends to gravitate towards Phil Donahue more than Phil Rizzuto. While he plays the sensitive dad role I know he's a competitor and his kids going to be a lil stud.

BTW - Every so often guys will come in to the forum and rip travel ball coaches. When you look at all four leagues you'll notice the teams leading in the standings all have travel ball coaches involved.
Perhaps, just perhaps, those teams are leading the way because of their coaches commitment to teaching baseball at a higher level.

I'm not bad mouthing travel ball at all. I think its great. But LL is not the same as travel ball and never will be. It is a place for all kids to play regardless of talent. I'm just as competitive as the next guy, but in LL you work with what you've got. I don't think we keep shrinking the league to get the level of play better. Teams that are struggling now may be the champions in the future. If 40% of the players now do not deserve to play in the majors then we would have 4 or 5 teams on each side playing each other a bunch of times. Even with its flaws I think this league is doing a great job. These kids play 22 games, then all- stars, where other towns (without LL, Cal,etc.) play 12 to 14 and then their done.

Baseball players were never in class when we did the paragraph thing. Hell I got my point across any way. I will start forming paragraphs for you Chris or make my post shorter. LMAO Giants vs Cubs 5:30 @ Julien alot of predictions going around. If Zo can go the limit Giants are the favorite.

Chris~
I'm not ripping travel ball coaches, I'm just trying to defend LL a little bit. It is obvious that travel ball players are far more advanced than non-travel ballers. If my son didn't love football so much( and myself too) I would try to get him on a travel team.

The minor leagues were created by LL to develop players who are not yet ready for the majors. It says so right in LL's literature. I'm just opposed to watering down the major division to accommodate those players who are less skilled.
Let them play in the minors. What's wrong with the alternative provided?

I hear you Dave - I am not one who believe that kids should be focused on one sport at this age. I think its great that kids play football/basketball, wrestling or what ever else they want to do (even soccer - God help them). Cal Ripken has said again and again he believes kids shouldn't focus this early on just one sport.
Nevertheless, some kids just love to play baseball. Unfortunately, others are coerced into playing by parents not willing to allow their kids other options.
You and I are probably in agreement on 95% of what you're saying.

Wow Chris thats better than how it started! I don't like this new rule either, but I don't think it should be the end of LL. Maybe I was a little bit too much of a smart a** at the beginning. Just trying to fit in with Greenie.

That's what makes it fun here. I've been on the receiving end plenty of times. I enjoy giving you crap but I respect your opinions. I really do. Now your a full member with all the rights and privileges. BTW - Murph our two starters have a combined WHIP of .86. ZO has just pitched back-to-back no hitters and is looking awful good. We have scored 44 runs in 4 games and our lil ones are really hitting. I'd say bet on the Giants!

Me, A smart ASS? I'm just amazed Murhy used paragraphs. If you think watering down the leveling of competition is good then so be it. Personally, I like to see some competitive games at the Major league level. Did you think our last game was fun? I didn't. I'm just glad none of your pitchers got their head taken off during the game. I would much rather see 3 or 4 competitive teams and have the rest of the kids in the minors where they belong. Chris~Is Ryan going to be 7? I didn't realize that
